Im curious to know what people have paid to get an engine rebuilt.

Lately i've been talking with quite a few shops, prices have varied pretty big but i just wanna know what is considered a deal and whats not.

Just your average run of the mill 351w rebuild.

Depends on what you do yourself and what's done for you...are you talking about dropping your car off and coming back to pick it up with the rebuilt engine in it?

Personally, I'd think IF I was simply dropping off the engine as a complete long block, and picking it up with what I consider an acceptable rebuild on a higher mileage engine (IE needs new pistons/crank undercut/reconditioned rods/engine balancing/reconditioned crank damper/3 angle valve job/new cam bearings/cam/springs/guides/retainers/gaskets/ along with many of the other stuff that comes with it) I'd expect to probably pay ~ 2200-2700 at a half-way decent shop. But it's been a few years since I've last priced anything at the machine shop, lol.

Well i will have the block, and want it to pick up a complete engine ready to run. I do have, Alt, Starter, Head Covers, carb, but the rest would be new.

this is pops motor, mine is going to be nasty....but he wants more tame. The best prices ive heard from, was from B & B up in Appleton but the ride up there is kind of a pain

Many shops will take the block and machine (~400-800 bucks depending on the amount of work needed/desired like line honing/honing with deck plate, how much boring, etc, etc) and take the parts you've got (said master rebuild kit including crank) at XXX dollars, obtaining and reconditioning heads (as little as 100-200 for low mileage heads needing no work to ~700 bucks for heads that need reworking/quality valvejob...which is why perhaps going for some brand new eddy/trickflow/etc AL heads @ ~ 1100 bucks might be a better way to go that leaves you with more power) and then any accessory you lack (damper, timing chain cover, water pump housing, fuel pump, push rods, rockers, etc) and then figure 400-600 for a basic straightforward assembly...

Depends on what you need done. Some kind of rough prices:

Tank it all including heads, inspect it, mic it, plate bore it, hone it, and install the cam bearings: $400.

Line bore it: $150 (might as well buy splayed caps [$250] and get it machined [$100] for those)
Deck it: $100
Crank reground: $125 (might as well buy a new cast crank)
Disassemble/Assemble pushrod heads: $50/head

I don't know what the cutoff is for Fords but if you're going to spend more than $500 on machining a generic SBC you might as well find a different engine because you quickly approach buying a Goodwrench engine.

I'd love too Kyle, but the prices are polar opposites! Even with my friend with benefits discount! Call me or PM me what an estimate would be

I really like AMS too !:headbang

Steve @ AMS did up a real nice 521 BBF for me a couple years ago.....it made 830 HP NA on his dyno.....

you guys are forgetting this isnt a high hp engine....more on the lines of a stock rebuild with decent pair of heads and a nice little cam.

Thats why price is import. For the notch motor i want a proline SBF with a Procharger like my hero Mr. Plimpton :D
