Another not fan here. Have had more than a few (I don't even know the total to be honest:wow) and never kept any of them very long. Do yourself a favor and wait a bit and save for an AK. Same ammo, WAYYYYY more fun, and generally a better overall platform.:thumbsup

Hey, I have more AR's in my collection than AK's, but the purchase price and ammo price make the AK a way more economical platform to plink with. Now if I want to hit something over 150 yards away, give me my AR, if it's out of AR range, give me my R700 in .308, if it's out of that range, I have more than enough time to get out of harms way:rolf

Enjoy loading that non detachable mag, it's really what makes the SKS the red headed stepchild to the AK. When I am blowing through ammo, I want about a 3 second reload time, not a 3 minute reload time:rolf

And yeah, they make a kit that makes the SKS accept AK mags, but to say the realiability is a little sketchy would be an understatement.

You should be able to find a used SKS for about $100 though, that's their appeal, they are dirt cheap.

ive seen online that there are a few duck billed clips that supposedly just clip right in just like any other rifle with an exteral mag.

Reliability is a crapshoot with those. I had one that always worked, a friend had one of the same brand never worked right.
