I recently bought a 98 gtp and it needs intake gaskets asap. I've been reading online that the way to go is the aluminum ones, however, do any parts stores sell those or do I have to get them from the dealership and pay an arm and a leg.

The only ones I've seen at parts stores are the plastic ones.

Thanks,

Are you sure you're not talking about the plastic and aluminum intakes themselves? I had my Plastic intake go on my 96 Eighty Eight with the 3800 at 180K miles.Bought the intake and gaskets from the dealer

Wow they redesigned a complete and total POS gasket (that plastic junk) into something more reliable, that gasket would probably last 200k problem free miles, like my 91 3.8 did from the factory.........

Just call around and you should be able to find them locally, the last time I bought them I found them at Bumper 2 Bumper on Hwy 100 (across from Oscar's).....

Another thing to watch out for are the intakes themselves, GM plastic intakes = JUNK...!!! :chair:

So the GM factories installed them wrong is what you're all saying...???

i would say GM installs them correctly I think the vehicle owners dont properly maintain the vehicles to proper standards and or after 150K the plastic's properties change with all the heat cycling and dex-crap build up :P

150k is optimistic but hey every mechanical device is different, is it possible the alum ones would last 200k without falling to pieces ?

I just threw out a mileage number, I dont think I've seen any vehicles go many miles past 100K
