I used to work with a guy (at an Acura shop, of all places...) that brought pictures in of the GM proving grounds in Arizona.

In their warehouse sat 12 untouched LT5's covered in plastic. They're probably still sitting there.

Amazing motor. :)

I've said it before...

ZR-1 = Dream car

The only problem with the ZR-1 was not power but handling. The chassis just could not keep up with it making the car amost scary to drive hard (although that may be the coolest thing since yenko's!).

But it now for $29,000?!? :sgay

I could build a Small block as powerful for about 5-6G.

Yes you could but it wouldnt have the cool intake manifold like the LT5. :goof Look at slps 650hp ls1 25 grand. It seems high horsepower n/a fuel injected engines are quite a chunk of change.

You can do 600hp on an NA smallblock CARB or EFI for under 10k with the right combination of parts.

There is an outfit that sells used NASCAR engines, complete carb to pan for about 10-12G (they reassemble from used nascar parts...depending on what tune you select) and they are making anywhere from 500 all the way to 750hp NA for alot less than the 29G for the LT5.

What is the cost on a regular LT5? I know the older 450-500hp 8.0L v-10's were going brand new for 12,995 last year complete. The 528ci, 610hp Hemi crate motors are about the same.

Better yet, pick up a zr-1, that is a complete car, for about an extra 5k. Or try to swap a Benz or BMW v8 DOHC or even a V-12 and a still spend less.

I know this is a little off topic, but has anyone seen the C-4 test cars at the Corvette museum in KY? They had one with an all aluminum 454 and another with a V-12 in it. Said they wanted to test the "maximum potential envelope" for the ZR platform.
