Haha he thinks its bad ass, he helped pick this one out. Told me he used to have one himself, Now his dog on the other hand doesnt know what to do about it, staring at it in the tank, growling and hair on his back standing up.. lol, I think he's calmed down a little bit now

I need to take some pics, he's gonna retire soon.

Most of his life was under those expensive incadecent reptile
bulbs you see at the pet stores. With them burning out so
frequently he seamed to like regular soft whites just as much.

Flukers Dragon food, fresh vegies with more powder vitamins
sprinkled on top. Hot rock and good sized basking bowl with
clean water.

My last Oriental Dragon made it into the teens as well, unsure
of exact date but 10+ years old at a minimum.

i was told not to use a hot rock for some reason, I have a uva/uvb strip bulb, and a 100watt basking bulb, along with a heatpad on the underside of the tank

I've had as many as 6 Timber Rattlesnakes at one
time when I lived in MN :) Wife wont let me keep
them now so I have to drive to the Missippi river
just to see one in person.

I forget why but I remeber hearing that too, all of my
reptiles liked them so I give them what they want.

There quiet little dudes but you gotta treat them like
women, give em everything they want and dont ignore
them or they'll disapear.

Haha thanks for the advice, I am going to put a water dish in there to see if he uses it, Other wise it sounds like u have to mist them about once a day, or let them swim in some 90-100* water for about 15mins a couple times a week to hydrate them

He'll just tear azz thru there for a while, then over time he will
settle down and soak in there on his own. Shalow tray like an
1" or 2 deep. I also give him a seperate smaller dish to drink
because they like crapping in there soaking water....

Reminds me of the time when I was hitching cross country, some dudes in Texas gave me a place to crash. Turns out they were keeping rattlers to milk for venom. At night it rained real bad and some of their "stock" got out of the tanks they kept in the garage. I was sleeping on the couch when they woke me and said what happened. They gave me a small gun and said, "they prolly won't bother you but if they make a move towards ya, use this on 'em". I sat on the top of the couch back all freaking night long holding that gun...never saw a snake!

Same size tank mine has been in all 12yrs. A single
long piece of driftwood will let him bask closer to the
heat lamp, hide in its shade when he is hot.

Keep in mind this is an open desert animal, they live
in sand and rocks with trees few and far between.
Get him some crickets, they go mental for moving
prey. Mine hasnt eaten a mouse in years since he
started to get old and slow.

Hot Rocks are frowned upon, because smaller reptiles can literally cook themselves to death trying to regulate their body temp.
Large reptiles will often suffer random burns.

Instead, one of those stick on under the cage heaters are better, or a hot rock that is buried at the bottom of your sand.

Your basking lamp is perfect, with the climbing material not too close to the top.
Might want to get some wood (not from your backyard!), or synthetic vine, something more stable, and not prone to ripping off the glass :]

Basking area should be around 95-100º
Cool side of the cage around 75º

If it is hot in the entire cage, it will dehydrate too quickly, and could die :|

The cave should preferably be on the left/cool side as well... and maybe build up the sand another 2" on the hot side if you do bury a hot rock there.

*edit*
dammit, now I want one :P
