http://www.leftlanenews.com/claim-porsche-accuses-nissan-of-exaggerating-gt-r-lap-time.html

The GT-R posted a 7.29 lap time at the Nurburgring a few months ago and it was only topped by the ZR1 Vette. Anyways, porsche didn't believe them, bought their own GT-R and tested it and don't see how it's possible

that's much more belivable. After seeing the Z06 take it out in a drag race I had my doubts that the GT-R could beat the lighter Z06 on a road coarse. There was no way the GT-R could even come close to the ZR1.

Rumour has it that nissan may have been using race tires instead of the stock tires that come on the car. Porche was using stock tires...although I would imagine they are pretty sticky in themselves.

26 seconds faster??? I think Nissan sent in a ringer. PR nightmare either way.

7:29 is REALY fast for Nurburgring and the GT-R is a hair slower than a well tuned Omni in the quarter on street tires at twice the weight.........I like there aproach to confirming the times.
http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/2008/09/2009-nissan-gt-r-0-60-in-35-and-274mpg.html

Uncorrected actual times unlike Road & Track and other "corrected" times. Great car, just about a supercar bone stock but 7:29 at NRBG is an incredible statement.

Nissan stated that the V-spec was tuned and had shaved tires.

What does a "stock" GTR run on the ring?

Porsche has shown what a bone stock GT-R runs at The Ring: 7:50s. 7:50s is still moving but not nearly as impressive as the original claim

Meh, i still got a Road And Track with the headline GT-R SPANKS 911 turbo and corvette Z06. i've heard more tests saying the 911 got the shit handed to them by Nissan. now a company buys the competitors car and runs slower? Who says they were full out? that would be like Ford buying a ZR1 to see if it could beat a ford GT. NO SHIT they wouldn't push it to the limits.

If it wasn't done by the same driver then I don't see it being valid.

Let's not forget what is really important here. That a stock 09 Dodge Viper ACR ran 7.22, beating both the Nissan and the Vette and currently holding the record...:goof

haha this is awesome. This has the making of the best top gear episode ever!

Karps: they did use the same driver
"Porsche engineers were able to achieve a lap time of 7:54 with the GT-R, which was brand new from a U.S. dealership. On the same day with the same expert driver, a 911 Turbo test car managed 7:38 and the GT2 achieved 7:34."

I was about to say...it wasn't "only" beaten by the ZR-1, lol.

Sorry missed that. Maybe I should say same person paying his check. lol

But I agree, let's put the Stig in the cars and see what's what.

Also as a person who has worked with both German and Japanese engineers, it does not surprise me one bit that they would be having a pissing match over who's **** is bigger.

Is'nt the ACR a racecar tho? Purchased soley for the purpose of track time? Are they even street legal? Pardon my ignorance about vipers.

Uses upgraded brakes/suspension components and enhanced aerodynamics for increased downforce...street legal tires are used. A hardcore package allows you to lighten the car ~ 80 lbs.

Engine/trans/gears remains the same as what you get with the regular 600hp SRT-10 vipers.
