I moved into a new apartment building about a month ago. I am paying $625 for rent on a 1br including heat which isnt bad IMO. How ever today I was on craiglist and I saw an ad for some of the other 1br units in my apartment building. On the ad they have it listed for $590 with heat included.

Seeing I signed a lease legally there isnt much I can do, But do you think I should mention it to the landlord and see if she will change my lease or should I just let it go and pay the extra $35 bucks a month?

Do you think if I mention it to them and they will be upset and reconsider leasing the apartment to me next year if I decide to stay?

What do you guys think I should do on this?

Pay what you agreed to, you said it was worth $625.
Thats what I would do but I dont ***** about much and the even tho I am poor $35 isnt much money.

If you mention it to them I dont think they will care or remember in a year and of course they will give you another lease.

nothing you can do about it. You signed a lease which committed you to the price. Maybe when you signed the lease there was only 1-2 open units but this month there are 8-9. They aren't going to lower your rent just cuz they are nice. Rental housing is a business meant to make money. Thats it.

maybe the two apartments are different in some way square footage, upper,no appliances etc. i say go look at it and if is the same ask them why you pay more couldn't hurt.

$35 is NOT worth making a stink about, if it was $100 maybe but just leave it be.....

I'm with this guy. I work for a apartment building and they will say "sorry you signed your lease agree to this amount. That was even after seeing your unit and you still agreed to it." So unfornately there is nothing you can do but wait till the lease is up. Next year when they give you a renewal and the rent was raised. Then you can negociate the rent.

EDIT: Oh BTW our 1BR's are $545 with everything included except electric(so thats heat, water, cooking gas, stove, fridge, air conditioner all included).

Well in a year, that's $420 that could be spent on something else...

$420 is a nice mod.

I agree with Michelle, the money will build up over time. And if your polite and just ask why yours is more... it certainly wouldn't hurt anything...

might be for a different apartment layout. 1st floor vs 3rd floor, or sq footage difference

possibly a difference in lease length too...

And sometimes you just have the misfortune to be a little late for a arbitrary "special deal" to fill up remaining units.

All the apartments in the building are the same size and are 1br. My lease is one year. I am on the first floor. I think I am just going to let it go and see what they are charging for other units next year. I decided I would rather not stir up stuff for $35. I like the place and I dont want them to say if you dont like it leave. So Im just going to keep my mouth shut.
