There is alot of maintenance I will do to my cars, but brake work is not one of them. I searched for a thread on brakes shops but was surprised to find none.

What shops would you recommend for a good, no frills pad and possibly rotor replacement that won't leave me feeling like I just got boned when I leave?

(Note; for an Olds minivan)

brakes are by far one of the easiest things to do yourself... just by new pads and rotors and take the 2 hours(tops) time and do ir yourself....

after you get the tires off its usually just a couple bolts for the caliper than replace the pads and rotor and put back together.... done deal...

Yea they are probably one of the easiest things to do on most automobiles, some GM's dont even have a caliper bracket to remove.

^^^ Yeah except when the rotors are rusted to shit and it takes 1.5 hours just to get the one rotor off.

a rotor is a rotor is a rotor. Buy the cheap ass ones from china, and get your self some good low-dusting ceramic pads. If your gunna spend big $$$ on brakes, do it on the pads.

Cheap rotors will warp as soon as you hit a puddle on the freeway

I'd also offer to do them, but looks like you have it covered :)

No this was my first brake job I ever accepted to do. It was for my buddies girlfriend and he said he'd be willing to help. Will at that time I didn't know a thing about doing brakes but it didn't seem that hard. So we gave it a shot, was realized we didn't have all the parts so we got some things we needed and we were off. We took the tire off and thats when i noticed the rust. Didn't think it would serve that much of a problem because I didn't know any better. I thought it would just pull right off like any other rotor. I was very very wrong. We sat there and pounded it with a hammer for like a hour. Then we took a break and when at it again finally getting the one off. That was not kinding you 1.5 hours!! We went at the other one and that was about another hour. We didn't know of any other way. So I vow to never do another brake job as long as I live. My first was my last. Now I'll just pay my buddy a few extra bucks to pop them on for me.
