I've been trying to find a car for me and my kids to putz on the next 3 years or so until the oldest gets his license. At first I was looking in the $2k range, but the cars I was finding needed a little bit too much work to be worth it. I decided I would consider spending a bit more to get a good car that we could still work on and make our own.

ANYWAY......lol
Today I looked at a 93 Z28 in Germantown. Black with charcoal/black cloth interior, a/t with a shift kit ( everything seemed real solid while driving it ) The exterior is in decent shape, the car just needs a real good cleaning. I told the guy I would think about it and call him tomorrow. He's asking $3850 but said that there's room to work there. First off, I am asking you knowledgable people if this is a good choice in vehicle or not, and what would be a fair cash price to offer the guy? Oh yea, it has 125k on the ticker.

Thanks for any info BCM.

Honestly Moels...I'd worry about putting a kid in such a car as his first ride. I know you had some decent stuff in HS, but I'd probably make the kid earn the privilege to drive such a car...by proving responsibility in something mundane like a taurus/impala/etc.

I'd buy it for "myself" so to speak and work on it with him...and then once responsibility is proved, then surprise him with the keys.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression but the car would not be turned over to the kids. This would be my car that we would work on together. When the kid(s) get their license it would be a car that I would let them use on occasion to take a date out or whatever. Don't worry, my kids earn everything they get. It's just that they've always loved being in the garage with me and I thought this would be a good thing to do over the next few years.

I would stay away from the 93s as they are harder to tune. 94s dont need emissions either!

Don't the 94's have the LT1 as well? How are the 93's harder to tune?

I do not know these cars as I have been into Mustangs for a few years. Thanks for any info.

It has nothing to do with the LT1. It has to do with the means of programming them. 93s require a chip where 94s can be flashed programmed making life alot easier when you want to tune it.

Sounds more like something that could be held against you at a later date.

I say go with a 79 Ford Fiesta and stick a Busa engine in it.

Saw those as well. If you read my initial post, I'm not looking to spend 6-9k on a hobby car. I'm also not looking to travel 3 hours to pick one up. I found this one in Germantown and it looks like I'll be picking it up today. If I do, I will post some pics up when me and the boys get it cleaned good.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Maybe it's cuz I'm 25, but anything really from the 80's or 90's doesn't sound father-son-ish to me, but then again my dad is 61 years old, so anything father-son would have been carbed, and 30+ years old.

good luck on the '93

A Father and Son/Daughter project doesn't have to be any specific year vehicle.

I offered $3300 and am picking it up at about 4pm today.I'll try and clean it up and take a few pics before it gets dark out. Or before the start of the Packers ass-stomping the Cowgirls. :)

My dad had a 68 firebird that I helped him work on; even sat in his lap and steered it down the highway at 120mph. Was always told it would be mine when I was old enough to drive. Never came to fruition... Lieing Bastard..
