I have a few things:

1. finish rearend build up and swap (might be in yet this year we'll see)

2. finish getting my parts for my 4-speed conversion. Spec out the trans and get that ordered.

3. look for some other things...never know what 2009 could bring :devil

what do you guys have brewing for the winter? :thumbsup

1. Put new rear-end in the coronet: 3.90's with sure grip, performance axles. Thank YOU moparjim!

2. Get the Shelby CSX back in good mechanical/driving condition. Rebuilt trans/new clutch (already got), new disc/shoes all around, new master cylinder, new/rebuilt shocks, new muffler, new oil lines to the turbo, perhaps rebuilt/replace t28 VNT to a t35 or 42 (perhaps...I need to find VNT experts to help determine the feasibility), new tires. Then have driver side front 1/4 replaced/straightened and whole car repainted in stock "exotic red" with new front air dam/repaired rear spoiler. The shop class at the HS I work at is doing all the work (well, except body/paint)...this is their yearly project car.

I hope to have the bodywork done and the car painted. I know who I want to do it so I just have to try and squeeze into his schedule.

The interior is nice already so that box is checked. The car runs and drives so the mechanicals can wait til after she's purdy.

Sadly enough, I'm still on the tank of fuel that was in it when I pulled it out of storage in April. I think I have maybe 200 miles on the car for the summer... :(

Finish up the exhaust and figure out what I am doing for interior. Get a carb put together and on it to fire it up. Tie rod ends needed. Either refurb the drums or convert to front disc.
That's what needs to get done, what actually happens depends on $$$ and time (working full time and taking 18 credits this semester and 15 next doesn't leave a lot of time :goof)

I'm going to save up lots of money to have some stuff done to my Olds in spring, all cosmetic, she needs nothing else, my Z28 needs nothing, the RS needs a lot done, so I'll make plans for her, and maybe keep the ol' man company while he works on the Galaxie.

Got two plans.

Switching over to EFI from the carb. I ordered the Retroktek Powerjection system, the one that looks like a carb. Saw enough good testimonials on it to make the leap. Can't wait to get it and get it all installed and running.

The redo my sub box and amp rack.

Money is tight....But....

1-300z Transmission Swap...Around $1500, I have the transmission already

2- Swap to the 5 lug hubs I bought, which involves buying new wheels and tires.$$$$$$$$$??????????

3-Put on the 300z brakes I bought, on the car- Another $500 needed for lines rotors, booster, etc...

OR

Sell the car.

after I straighten out my other stuff thats goin' on...

- replace rattly ghetto catback w/ JDM e-bay catback.
- figure out why idle starts out @ 3k when cold, and then ocillates between 2k-2.5k till warm
- replace broken parking lamp connectors. Replace leaky parking lamps w/ blacked out parking lamps.
- Fix dead interior lights
- Replace ugly stock tails w/ something that more matches the tails on the GTO
- See if I can refinish the headlight lenses to be crystal clear again
- e-bay HIDs
- find some local 16" wheels & tires, as these look dryrotted
- fix starting rust.
- see if I can find a cheap hood and hatch to replace the dented hood and hatch w/ non working defrost and ripped off tint w/ a good one.
- Also, find a tarp for the GTO, while I work on the beater.

Thank god overnight parts from Japan are cheap.

I had bought a front grille from Iola this past summer for the Biscuit and have been working on straightening that out, drilling out rivets and masking and painting the headlight recesses for the past 2 months. I finally have it all done and I think it turned out well. I'll try and get a pic of it

Still stock piling parts for my 4-speed swap. As well as finishing up getting a few odds and ends for my rearend build. The rearend should be ready to roll come spring :)

You're trying to keep it all pretty original and old school eh? Thats cool, hardly anyone keeps it simple anymore. Though part of me thinks it would be neat to see something funny like an original 283 car, but w/ a T-56 and some 4.10s or 4.56 gears

I already know one person who got it, installed it...spent time getting it running decent/tunning, then got rid of it...performed no better, started no easier, and got worse mileage than his carb. Didn't hate it, but wasn't enthralled by it either.

Russ is bringing over a 318 builder. The local HS is affliated with MATC, so MATC is doing the machine work. The HS will build it under my supervision.

Plan to do a basic 318 with good pistons installed. I might do a basic port job on the heads just to touch up some areas to improve flow nomially and simply, including some at home gasket matching. The cam I've got is fairly versatile and works decently with the 2.76 cruising gears...so I might keep it initially. The plan is to just be cheap...it's only buying time till I get around to building a serious RB engine.

When the engine goes in, I might go with a slightly looser torque converter...such as 2000-2200 rpm. Something cheap though, like a "saturday night special"

I've also purchased a complete rear-end with 3.90's and sure-grip diff. The cam I've currently got should do okay with those and the looser converter...should be able to squeek out a few more rpm's with the little bit of head work I do.

I do think I might be able to do a 4 wheel disc conversion...so that my car can stop as well as it handles (all poly components, aftermarket sway bars front/rear, HD torsion bars/rear leafs) which when paired with everything else, might be fun to take up to RA for a couple laps next year.

Is rebuilding those very difficult? My Camaro needs hers either rebuilt or replaced....

jbiscuit
12-10-2008, 07:36 AM
I wouldn't say it was difficult....but a pain to put back together if you aren't paying close attention thats for sure. The key is to try and pinpoint what is wrong with it first. Is a gear in the transmission broke? Does the motor have resistence? Brushes look OK? Stuff like that. I bench tested mine first to see if the motor was garbage or not. USUALLY its something mechanical in the older wiper motors....frozen center shaft, bad bearing, broken or gummed up teeth on the reduction gear etc
