My dads summer project is coming along nicely. should be shingled today and have windows on monday. The front of the garage will have a hangar door with two rams that lift the front of the building horizontal. Can't wait to start a new project car!!!:headbang

Holy damn! We're trying to get a garage up ourselves. Keep us abreast of anything that "was a really good idea" or you were really glad you added. I'm talking about anything from wiring, to floor coverings, to placement of lights, outlets, etc...

We laid out the floor plan to include footings for multiple placements of both 2 post and 4 post lifts and sank conduit to hide wiring and hoses. As far as flooring I think epoxy is the way to go but if anybody has any ideas I'm game.

ill tell you what you need for lighting thats the cats meow are the Linear Fluorescent High Bay fixtures. they are available through RUUD lighting with either T5HO or T8 lamps in 2-, 4- or 6-lamp configurations with a choice of optical systems. They provide comparable light levels with up to 50% energy savings over HID fixtures. they are amazing bright. i dont know how tall your ceilings plan to be. but check this pic out and that really is the difference i see it on every job we have converted. http://www.globalindustrial.com/images/picgroup/4273.jpg

We just converted our whole building over to the RUUD lighting. and WE energies gave us a ton of rebates for the lights. I think they were in the $130 a piece range. after WE Energies they were almost half price.

Plus they are bright !!!

My dad sells these by the thousands for Orion Energy Systems in Sheyboygan.

Bright as hell and the savings is phenomenal.

Installed the garage door last weekend. Maybe this weekend we'll put the door and window in so the masons can hang the face brick on it.

Why did you go with a one piece lift door over a standard fold in door?

i'm guessing it has something to do with the rest of the house. It sounds like they want it to blend in with the house and Not look like garage door at all... very cool.

If thats the case, that door is going to be heavy as hell. Looks like they have cultured stone on the bottom 4 feet of the garage

Very heavy door, but from the street it will blend in with the rest of the house.

that garage door also saves head room... in case you want a lift near the door.
