I've owned and worked on just a few over the years.
My new (old) daily driver is a 2.4 SOHC 1993 pickup (ka24e).
Im going thru the usual repairs for a 100k mile vehicle, tires,
shocks, brakes, plugs/wires (original!) and while replacing the
rusted oil pan I noticed some peices of timing chain guide
in the pan. Fine I'll do the timing chain hell they get sloppy.
Well if you've ever done a timing chain on an import its like
doing one on a Ford v-8, pretty much strip the motor. I
grab a "complete" timing set from a local autozone/checkers/
"insert discount chain store here". I install the "DynaGear"
set, both gears, chain.both guides and tentioner..thing rattled
at certain RPMs and I hate rattles. I pull the valve cover and
something isnt moving freely between the tentioner and the
slack side of the guide. Strip the comple motor down (oil pan
and all) and investigate, F-ing aftermarket guide has so much
rubber coating in some ares its actualy binding on the block!
Little polishing here and there, Im ready to put the complete
motor back together wen night....hey I saved money it will
only cost me about 4hrs of my own time! If I didnt do this
crap for a living, and it was my first one I would have freaked
on startup. Note to self: say no to Dynagear products
