Hey guys, I'm putting a new motor in my truck next week and i was just wondering what kind of products you guys use to clean up your engine bay and the engine. i figure it doesn't make any sense in putting in a "newer" engine and keeping everythign all dirty. so what do you use?

Castrol Super Clean is the bomb diggity.
Just don't let it sit on cast aluminum parts for too long. Super Clean is pretty good stuff, however, although Castrol no longer makes it. It's made by someone else now. Side note: Super Clean will also strip paint off model cars without harming the plastic, it will dissolve chrome plating on models so don't dunk bumpers and stuff in it. If you choose to strip paint on models, use a plastic container, not metal. It will eat the metal and you will have Super Clean all over your counter top. Don't ask me how I know this. The main component of the stuff is lye. Very caustic...use rubber gloves.

some engine de-greaser maybe also? a scrub brush. when you can stand in the engine bay, its pretty easy to clean

I use brake and or electric motor connector cleaner and a shit ton of paper towels then wax & grease remover. Then I usually clean scuff and paint everything like so

I would also recommend a 3M charcoal vapor mask and some gloves

I use either gas with a scrub brush or the engine brite gel with a scrub brush. Just make sure you dont have any cuts on your hands or the engine brite will burn lika SOB:devil:thumbsup

+3 for Simple Green

Hell, I've unwrapped engine harnesses and used this simple green on them. Never had a problem.

Simple Green + a shark steam cleaner. I've heard the Gunk engine degreaser isn't too bad either.

The steam cleaner, apart from spraying really hot STEAM, also keeps from getting water all over everything. That way you don't screw up your harnesses and connectors. You still need to do a little scrubbing with a brush, but it works great. I've done it with both my Supra and the GTP.

Basically you want one of these...

I'm personally a HUGE fan of oven degreaser. Spray it on let it sit for 10min and hose it off and presto every thing's clean.

Oven degreaser can eat paint, so don't leave it on too long.

I have one of these. It connects to the air compressor and has a hose you can run to bucket of degreaser solution (typically simple green and water)

High pressure cleaning... it cost me like 5 bucks at Northern Tool
