question about 4thgen monte carlo

what do they put out as far as hp,1/4 mile.. because i had a run in with one earlier today on my way home from the dells.. i was for lack of a better word SHOCKED that i pulled away from him.. the car was way way clean..even sounded great.. but he just didnt get up and go like i thought he would.. and i know that im not fast by any stretch of my imagination.

SS nose has 3.73's in it otherwise they came with cruiser gears. Problably real soggy 350 and a lumpy cam. Thats what sux bout a 3 spd. either you to high or too low in powerband, 4 a rolling streetfight usually

Have you actually run the slobalt at the track yet? It certainly would give you an idea of what to realistically expect against other cars.

Basically, if it was an SS, it likely had ~ 180hp, and 3.73 gears...most ran low 16's high 15's or so...but I've seen some slower ones, like low 17's. There are some with less than 3.73 gears, on earlier models...don't know what you came up against though.

Basically, I'm not sure what to make of you're results...I'd expect a car like that to trap mid 80's, probably a mph or two faster than you...but who knows? You've got mods, what have they done for you? Only one way to find out...

i run mid 15's with one freak 15.38 so.. to be honest with you i would have though that monte's where alot faster.. i know the new ones are low 14 sec cars maybe thats why i expected more

I will be the first to congratulate, good job! Hate to say it cause I am a monte owner. I used to race alot of these cars too cause some people bought them and actually believed in the SS package, thinking it was the late 60's or sumthin. Or strung out baddasses with more air in the airshocks then brains.

Should of run a mid to high 15 in good tune, if stock. Fastest stock time I've read was an 84' that did 15.3, back when they were new...some do low 16's too. Many if not most aren't stock anymore though, from what I see. The high output 305 they had is only rated at 180 hp and 235 ft lbs.

mine stock went 15.75 when i got it...it was a sled...slow sled....so i added a bottle with a 125 POWER SHOT..then took that motor out and put in a 350 TPI and all the things to make it look good...cause it didn't GO FAST....13.80 was it's best...yea yea yea...it was SLOOOOOOOOW.............but it LQQKED good :thumbsup :goof
