Dyno challenge and car show at nagel auto body

we have scheduled our 2008 dyno challenge for the weekend of September 12-14, 2008. our sponsors include Nagel auto body, Kilpatrick engine & transmission, and motorsport machine services.

the dyno hours will be as follows:

Friday, September 12, 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 13, 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
sunday, September 14, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The rates will be: $80.00 for cars (3 pulls), $20.00 additional for diesel, and $20.00 additional for air/fuel ratio.

There will also be food and drinks for purchase.

We had a great turnout of cars and people last year, including a lot of BCM members. hopefully this year will be even better.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Duffy Nagel at (2620 521-3090 or feel free to pm me also.

no that got taken apartdue to my genius brother putting 87 octane in it after running it out of gas. lets just say 10:1 pistons dont like 14 psi of boost with only 87.

i will have something else for ya with just a small shot on it:shades

as of last year two years ago it was 1200 h.p./tq. i know they were talking about getting the 1500 h.p. upgrade but im not sure if they did. we found this out trying to dyno a 2800 hp blown alky hemi.

What happened? Did it just flatline or did the dyno overheat?

What type of dyno does the Nagel show use? Is it like a DynoJet with a 3500# drum?

BTW what kind of dyno can handle a 2800 HP blown alky hemi? Or how did you arrive at the 2800 HP number. I know the Top Fuel guys they always say its an "estimated 8000 HP" because there aren't any dynos that read that high, so I'm wondering what the highest dyno can handle.

Ive seen dyno's that go to 2,500hp...

I know WB Dyno's Mustang will read up to 2100 hp.

Good luck with keeping anything over 1,500hp straped without blowing the tires off though.. :rolf

2800 h.p. was an estimate but not far off considering the combo we were running compared to other blown alky set-ups. its basically a top alcohal dragster motor with a regular hi-helix blower similer to a top fuel blower, but the t.a. dragsters use a screw blower which makes more boost and is more efficient. the first run it anialated the tires and so we strapped it down real hard for the next run. it still spun bad but pegged it within maybe a second and a half. the same motor pushed the 3200 lb. all steel car in my sig to 205 mph down the groves junk track on a VERY mild tune up.

Meh... every time I put my car on their dyno it puts out far less than it should. I don't know if it's the humidity or what. First run it spun the tires. I only put down 616 whp on the second run. By the third run of course it's starting to get heatsoaked so last run was worse than that. I know the car can do much more than that (cuz it's done it before). I suppose it'll help when I can actually plug into the ECU and see what's going on.

******* gay ass shit happened before we went on the dyno.. first we were just checking the nitrious (truck not running) turn the bottle on and it sounded funky, sure enough the line into the intake immediatly froze.... Solenoid stuck open:mad: borrowed a solenoid off 70cutlass442's car (smaller .80 selinoid 200hp wick in it, we had a .120 400) pulled the truck around back and it threw a CL through the pcm putting the truck in limp mode and not going out of 2nd gear:mad::mad: cleared it only to be able to lock up the truck in 3rd gear instead of od! flipoff2: got it on the dyno and it was WAYYYYYYYYY over fueled EGTS wouldnt go over 1000. made 574hp. should have turned one chip off and it would have made more. 3rd run turned the bottle on and sprayed it too soon and it backfired LOL putting the flame out is always fun. then finally waited for the turbo to start spooling and hit it making a hell of a pull only to put 642hp to the tire. this thing should have WAY more if he could have put it OD. this same setup netted another guy 812hp to the tire. we wanted 750+ on spray. i think its definetly there we just gota get it on a dyno and do a little tuning. we finished the truck sat morning at 3am and dynoed it at 1pm:punch: he was to anxious to see what it would do and should have just waited for today..

I'm tellin ya, that Ohio company has some bad mojo about them. I'm not trying to sh*t on Duffy's event, but every time I have had my car on their dyno something hasn't gone right. The first time I had it on their dyno was probably 3 or 4 years ago out in Madison. The car then was breaking up bad in the upper RPMs (just like it was yesterday). By the last pull (I think they actually gave me 5 pulls because they let off on two of them) I made 410WHP. The car, a month or two earlier made 423WHP on an in-ground Dynojet... same tune. Then last year, the second time I had my car on their dyno... yet again it started breaking up in the upper RPMs and only made 390 or so (it's on the 2K7 board at Nagel). And finally we have yesterday, where first run it burns the tires, then second run it breaks up 6k to 7k, and third run it's better, but is now heatsoaked and losing power. Now, mind you I had my car out on the highway before and after every single event and had no problems with spark breakup... until I get on their dyno. Before Sound Performance gave me my car back they had run a 636WHP at 26 psi... and even more at 29 and 31psi. And that was on a Mustang Dyno which I've heard reads lower than a Dynojet. I know for me, as soon as the end user software comes out for my ECU I'm going to probably take it up to Forest and do a few runs with it to make sure I'm not going crazy. I know a dyno shouldn't have those sorts of effects on a car... but damn.

I had no issues when they dynoed my car 406/373 cam only LS1, along with A B4C Z's 575hp pulls, Drty LS1's 423 hp pulls.

I cant believe with the horrible air quality yesterday you haven't even said one thing about that in your post. On a forced induction car humidty plays a huge roll, plus that fact is was 75+ degrees. you know that!

Yeah, I know... the humidity was really really bad. I just wasn't expecting it to rob me of as much power as it did. I still stand by my Bad Mojo comment... the evil Ohio Buckeyes coming to mess with us Wisconsin folk!:goof

friday after work, the 55 chevy with twin turbo 383 blow through made like 64xhp earlier, then the humidty and temp went down, they tossed back on and made one pull. picked up 40 to the wheels!, thats huge

Okay, I'm done whining. Just needed to vent for a moment. All in all it was nice to meet a couple more BCM'ers (SmokinRam and 70 Cutlass). I wish I could have made a day of it, but family duties call. I saw your car there SlowC5... but didn't know who you were.
