I have sort of been on the fence on the new iPhone, mostly because I am not too much of a fanboi for apple and really disliked my last experience with AT&T wireless/cingular.

But this is just another reason for me to finally bite the bullet and switch to the iPhone3g.

Might not be perfect, but a damn good deal at $13! If anyone has an iPhone3g they should try it out and let us know how it does!

i was playing with this in my sentra today. it still needs some adjusting but its pretty damn cool for what it is. multiple foot times, 1/4 miles, g force... gonna give it another go tomorrow in my buddies mustang

for example, i was runnin consistant 15.2-15.3 times at the track with the car stock (just to see what it did) today i was getting high 17s.

Will that work on the original iPhone?

If it does I will download it and try it out.

it works as long as you updated your os to v2.0.

I'll test it out vs. the g-tech meter and see whats what.

well mixed results. I really have nowhere in my car to position my phone where it will not move around (no cupholders). So everything seemed way off, it would stop the speed testing at 40 mph, im assuming thats when i made the 1-2 shift. The G's meter seemed to work alright tho, again as long as it wasnt jolted.

Why the poop did Apple put an accelerometer in the iPhone?

I've had my phone on order for about a week now. I might give it download when I get it.

I decided to bite the bullet.

Got the 16G version yesterday, bayshore had it in stock!!!

And paid for the app just today... So far it seems okay. Looks like I am able to actually max out the G meter (1.66G) so not really sure how accurate the times will be. Horsepower calcs look way wrong, but then again thats not what I bought it for.

If I go to GLD I will make sure I test them side by side.

i think its key to really have it in a position where it can not move at all.
