Don't have an xp disk handy. pull your hard drive out and bring it over. We fix without wiping your drive completely. But I call in case you dont see this.

I'm 99.9% sure that's not going to work.***
The XP registry hives that are on his hard-drive need to see the exact same, or 95% identical hardware in the computer it's running on, or else it won't boot.

*edit*
***Unless you both bought the same exact model with the same hardware installed :P

Not if it's "installed" as a slave. It'll show up as a secondary storage device. Drivers and hardware irrelevant.

yeaaa, but as a slave you won't be able to access it's registry if you need to manually delete rogue items that keep reappearing in it/renaming themselves, well, without loading/unloading hives & such pains in the ass :P

Go to Start > Run
Paste this into it and press enter:
tasklist /v > "%userprofile%\desktop\whatsrunning.txt"

Copy the contents of the text file created on your desktop here so we can see what's running.

I live too far away to make it worth it. I can't go more than 15 minutes away from home or work this week since I'm on call.
