Likeing my wifes 15" Dell, ordering a new laptop for myself.

This is gonna be for my race car datalogging as well as a
carry in to work for tunes ect. Is a 17" a PITA or not much
more cumbersome than a 15? The 17 comes with a 9 cell
bat already, wife complains about the 15 with a 6 cell now
but I dont think its too bad for weight. Any input welcome,
my old laptop is a 12" notebook so there all big to me :stare

Russ, my wife has a 17" laptop and it's fine for at home sitting on the couch, but I would hate to lug that thing around and certainly not inside a car. For what you want to do I'd say go with the 15".

I trust your judgment Joe, I'll spend the extra money on options.

i went from my small 12.1 to a fricking 17...it doesnt fit in my laptop backpack and it is rather heavy as well. it is nice for photo editing and movies though and the 1920x1200 resolution is awesome!

I hate my 17" HP, but I have to lug it around airports, into plants, etc. When
it's just sitting on the desk, I guess the weight isn't an issue. I also don't like
the widescreen, but I don't think you can get a 4:3 anything anymore. Darn
resolution has to be set too high for the old eyes :( When I got the 17" I was
actually looking to go smaller, but the prices seemed to be MUCH higher, which
seemed a quite crazy. On the other hand, the 7.x" Asus EeePC was a bit small :)
Was cool to play around with and worked for what I needed, but too small for
normal use.

We have a compaq/hp 17" widescreen and I see no problems with taking it places. Just make sure you get a case for a 17" or a backpack would work too. It's not heavy or anything at all. Definitely like the bigger screen for just about everything..
