Thought my pump was bad, til i found this!!

for those that dont know the neons have a pump in the tank. I pulled out the canister assembly and took it apart to find the power wire cracked and the connecter on that side black. I replaced it with new wires and whoalla car runs again... JUST sucks i had to take everything apart to get to it.. Its the connecter wires that run into the canister that holds the pump and out to the inside of the cover...

Just thought i would post this as I talked with quite a few people about getting a pump or asking to borrow tools to find the socket i needed in my messy toolbox:rolf

At least you dont need a pump now. What do you have to do to get that pump out? Do you even have to drop the tank?

gotta drop the tank, disconnect like 4 lines going to it(vent, fill, and a few others)

then it's got this stupid plastic lock ring that pretty much shreds itself when you touch it... once the ring is off, the pump comes right out...

i think i've got it down to 35 minutes to change a pump, and 5 to change the regulator on my black neon... lol

it looks as if the power wire was rubbing through in your photo. its always nice tohave things arcing in your gas tank. Be sure that wire is not getting rubbed through on the mount.

I'll be flirting w/ tens in a couple weeks:D and I dont think it would have sparked just off a open positive wire since there is nothing but plastic all around it:confused Im also convinced it was rubbing where it comes thru since there is no like rubber grommet just hard plastic

What kind of argument is that? I could have just as easily made the following statement to 99% of the BCMers:

Different strokes for different folks. With the neon at least it isn't mandatory to grow out a mullet before he takes his car out on the road, it can haul shit/people around with its 4 doors, gets good mileage, and can actually turn.

1) Cage isnt needed due to not being a dedicated drag racer, let off if the launch was bad and coast to a 13, or if it is good stay in it and hope for 10. If not go home before they kick you out, come back next weekend and try it again!

2) To be a 10sec car, means you run 1 time at the track get you slip and you are from there on out a "10 sec car", so you take the slicks off and put the street tires back on and enjoy your low 11second street car! That is a proven 10sec car when wanted.

Id have to say it would be cooler to see a srt4 in the tens than a f body or stang. Its alot harder to get a srt in the tens. F bodies and mustangs have been doing it for decades.
