Its not that exciting, but figured, eh what the hell & throw some pics up of it.
This one's coming out and the new one's going in wed or thurs night.
Most all the cracks go all the way through, including the half circumference crack :wooo .

No kiddin, shits broke!

Something didnt feel right with its handling so after taking it to a shop that 'no fault found'ed it" after going over all the common suspensions stuff. I took rags and cleaned everything up under the front end & started looking for hardware failure...well, I sure as heck found it. These pics were taken before I had it welded up as a 'bandage' a few weeks back, but I didnt realize the k-member was that deformed until I tried changing the passenger side k-member bushing because it was worn to pretty much nothing. It sitting cockeyed held the motor in place. But once getting the new bushing in place, there was no way the bolt connecting motor mount to the k-member was going back in because its twisted that badly.

What caused it to fail?

What caused it to fail?

My guess would be the years of road racing took its toll on that.

The roads this year finially did it in. A pothole in particular that helped was on silver spring on way up to the sheboygan show. Ive never heard such a bang under the car like when that happened. Also F (164) was absolute hell to drive on going to work- so I stopped taking it, it was 'that' rough. Hard to say when it started to but beginning this spring the handling characteristics declined like mad. But years of driving it hard plus it being the initial design are def factors.

That's because Ford's aren't worth putting performance parts onto in the first place

yeesh those are some mean stress cracks all right in the 'heat affected zone' too. How many miles did the k member survive? does anybody have a revised design that doesn't put the welds directly in the shear plane?

it's 60K old & got it back in '02. BMR made several revisions once they started seeing the wear on them. The jig mine was made on doesnt even exist anymore, so sending it to them to repair wasnt an option. Look at the pic above & compare it with mine. Its way different & the box design is done away with.

back out to the garage to keep on pulling stuff & making it all nice & clean underneith :thumbsup
