I finally got around to cleaning up my 24/47 stock. Cleaned off 60 years of old oil/grime and I think it's pretty decent now. I used Denatured Alcohol/steel wool and paper towels to clean it, and it has one new coat of BLO on it. Has a mirror bore :headbang

When I did my K98 and M14 stocks, I scrubed them in the bath tub with Dawn dish detergent. Let them dry, and a few coats of BLO. I've done it that way with a few other stocks too. I love BLO!

I've used BLO on all my milsurps but the K31 and the AK stock and handguards I redid. I have a plain jane 91/30 that I can't decide whether to go with BLO or back to shellac. Right now it's nekkid:rolf

I can't stand shellac. Hate it. But, there is something to be said for originality, so I leave my milsurp stuff that has it alone. My K98 did not have it, so I just cleaned it up and applied a fresh coat of BLO. Same with the M14. I've used BLO on a few other .22 stocks. It's great stuff.

I just put amber shellac back on one of the 91/30s that had "peeling shellac syndrome". It looks ok, but I need the right recipe for shellac + dye to make it a more correct "Soviet Iodine Red" colored.

Yeah amber is the stuff I have too. I thought I saw a recipe on surplusrifleforum.com with some food coloring or something. I may just BLO the 91/30 I stripped, I mean they only made a bazzillion 1941 Izzy 91/30's right;)
I may switch the brass capped handguard to my 32 Tula hex lam though. :)

This is a project I just finished a few hours ago. It's a Winchester 67A Boys Rifle I picked up at a pawn shop a few months ago. I got a great deal on it, but it was in rough shape. I took off the bluing and reblued it to a gunmetal color (that was not easy), stripped the wood and put on a few coats of BLO with no stain.
