View Full Version : First Attempt at Shooting Fireworks

I set out on a journey of a few firsts. First time using remote shutter release, first time playing with "Bulb" mode, first try at manual focus, and first time trying to capture fireworks.

I was about 5 miles away and my 55-250 lens was maxed out... man I wish the 50-500 I just ordered was here.

Here's a few of the better ones I got IMO. I think I could touch some of them up a little but I haven't mastered those techniques yet. I shot them all with RAW because one day, I'll get and learn Photoshop.

All of these were shot at ISO 100 with various shutter openings (usually 1-3 seconds) and all at f/11 at 250mm. Any feedback for improving the technique would be greatly welcomed. I'm only about 5 months into the dSLR hobby so I'm still learning every time I shoot.

I'm heading out there after work to pop a squat before tonight's fire works display. You headed out there? If so keep en eye out for me. I'mm be in doc martens, blue jeans and a green polo shirt with the 40D. :p

I think Scott might be going to the spot where I shot these... and taking my new lens. No matter where he goes, he's going to have the Bigma with him... :D

From the top of the east building or even the north building would be great. :rolf

I remember shooting the Harley 100th from the 18th floor of the North building, it was quite a view of everything.
