well, i am looking at installing some gauges in the car, but have a few questions. I am looking at the autometer c2 gauges. the main question i have, never installing gauges myself, is "how hard are mechanical gauges to install?" . the full sweep electric gauges cost a little more than i want to spend on something that is mostly cosmetic. i am looking at getting: boost, oil pressure, and water temp. how hard would those be to install and mount in a dash pod.

here are the gauges:

here is the pod:

any tips or advice is appreciated.

If I were you, I wouldn't want to run oil and coolant into the dash area. Mechanical boost gauges are easy, but hot pressurized oil and coolant is not fun if it ever leaks.

buy alot of wiring. trust me. nothing sucks more then being a foot short and needing to go back. get pin layout's of your wiring harnesses. run the lighting part of the gauges to your light switch. and butt connectors >soldering

I would also look into the illumination aspect. Especially with the S197 color changing illumination. My experience is that function on newer cars is controlled by the CAN bus so its not like an older car where it works off the dimmer switch.

Once you figure out where to put the sending units on the motor it really is not hard at all, just take your time and wire it properly.

Get like the electric short sweep. Ussually like half as expensive. And yes as stated above I wouldn't reccmend like oil psi or temp mechanical. Leaks = WAY bad.

well i ended up putting some gauges in the car this weekend, well actually one gauge and a shift light. all in all it went pretty good. I went with the ROUSH vent pods, not only are they cheap, but they look pretty clean IMO. the autometer DPSS is the shiznit!! here are a few pics:

side note, if you have a mechanical oil or coolant guage, it's a ***** trying to get through tech at races. most of them want you to prove you ran the lines right and have the right thickness piping and what not. so much easier to just run electric.
