All,

I bought my car and apparently the previous owner decided NOT to give me the lug key. :chair:

So this is what I am looking for. It is a 7 lug spline drive key, however it is NOT the standard gorilla lug key. It is actually inverted (so the little lug parts actually stick out as opposed to indent on the standard gorilla key), see attached pics.

Here are 2 pics of the lugs that I am looking for the key for:

This is the standard gorilla style lug. THIS IS NOT WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR A KEY TO. Just shown here for reference (note it is inverted)

If you have this key PLEASE PLEASE send me a PM, I would love to buy it from you, or even just stop by to swap out the lugs for standard ones I have, and buy you some beer for actually having the key :thumbsup

This really put a damper on my weekend as I was looking to get these suckers mounted on and maybe have some traction :headbang

Local tire shoppe is your best bet, probably cost you $30-40 to have them zipped off, same price as a tool to do it, but now.

If all else fails...

1- JB weld a socket over them.
2- let sit 24hrs.
3- ???
4- Profit.

Or try the GatorGrip from Sears... that might work pretty good actually.

Just wanted to update the thread in case anyone else ever has this problem and is searching the boards.

Well it turns out that style lug is not standard at all... So honestly just about anything I order online wouldn't have worked unless I knew the exact manufacturer. It was very narrow and the inverted pattern made it even harder. Although A+ to Big Bear they seem really nice out there.

So I tried the following:
- Called a bunch of local places, and the only one willing to touch it was Big Bear, but they couldn't get to it for a while.
- Creating a socket that perfectly fits via JB weld as suggested above... Figured hey it can't hurt anything. It fit just fine but once you applied any decent torque the JB weld just crumbled apart.
- Friend had a gator wrench so I gave it a shot. It started to grip a bit but would then slip, if I would have kept going it would have stripped. So I would not suggest it on lugs.
- Used an air hammer/chisel to make a slot in the lug and attempted to get it to spin by air hammering on the lug. Surprisingly this didn't work for me, although people have told me this sometimes works.
- Went to Sears and got the Lug-Out kit. It was too big since I had narrow lugs so I bought the hardened bolt-out kits. These kits are basically tapered sockets with big teeth inside that bite as you hit it with an impact. They stripped my lug about half way until I just gave up. Honestly tho, I do believe this is what most shops use so if you have a normal lug, tightened on properly give this a shot it likely may work.
- Had my buddy try to weld (Mig) a nut on to the end of the lug. Problem was there was a coating on the lug so he couldn't get it to stick. :(

And finally:
- Used a 15mm 12 point (worked better since it had more teeth to "bite") and just hammered the shit out of the socket until I made it fit over the lug. Attached it to a 1/2 drive jumped on the end and out she came. So I ended up buying 10 (yes they looked at me weird at Sears) 15mm sockets and just hammered them on that way and backed each of them out. Cost $50 ($5 a socket), but in all honesty in the grand scheme of things thats not all that bad.

If you are looking for a 15mm 1/2" drive socket. Don't go to the sears at Bayshore :rolf:rolf

Well all's well that ends well. Now I just gotta roll the rears a bit, and slap on the new rims... I'll post up pics once I get them on.

*EDIT* Also if you use the chisel method, expect to nick up the rim pretty good. For me I could care less about the rims, but had it been the new rims I would have been pissed.

all you needed was one socket,a vise to hold the socket with the stuck lug in it,a center punch and a hammer to remove it from the socket, then just reuse it

Yea agreed this would likely work. I did something very similar but my old ass vise was really weak and it kept coming out. But I think if I would have forked over for a decent new vise I probably could have reused a socket.

:(

What I did was fill the majority of the socket with JB, and then stuck it on the lug / let cure 24hrs.

For some reason I was thinking you only had 1 to do (was thinking of stock DSM's, that only have 1 per wheel), instead of having to re-use the 1 socket.
My method is definitely not re-usable :goof
