So who here has or is getting a true winter beater? I am buying a 87' Cavalier from a friend of mine this weekend as a true beater car for cheap. I will miss the usual RWD beaters I've had for winter doughnuts and all but I should get better mileage and park easier around campus with the compact :D.

Just picked up a 1990 Acura Legend with 216,000 miles. I think that qualifies as a true winter beater.

Scott mentioned that last year I think, or someone did. I was up for it, then borrowing my parents old 88' Plymouth Reliant which is the definition of a winter beater :D...then I bought a completely rusted 86' Monte LS(*blue bomber*) which was also a true beater. The Cav I'm getting is on the same page so I'm up for a winter beater show!

No nice cars, so yellow's WRX and Scotts truck must park out of the BK lot :flipoff: ;).

How much for those decals? I might be interested in some, or something like that :D. Last year I got some for the Reliant such as Fear This Mopar and Bad Ass Boys Drive Bad Ass Toys and a big Type R sticker for the fenders off a junkyard Honda...wonder if Yoosef enjoyed them too ;).

This year I definately plan to do a couple fun things with the beater, probably more stickers and maybe spray painting some silly stripes with whatever is laying around here. A homeade wing is tempting but too much time involved :goof .

My 93 Grand Am will remain the daily driver/winter beater mobile. I haven't driven the T/A in almost 2 weeks now. I may take it to work maybe once or twice more this season.

We need to have a Shopko 500 or something this winter LOL.
everyone gets together with their winter beaters and we pick a light pole in a large empty parking lot to race around in a circle. this is more fun that it sounds especilally just leaving the E brake up and keeping it matted in 2nd gear the whole time. There is a perfect parking lot in West bend its banked and everything, that one is good for the rear drives, its much harder to spin out. But its fun getting 3-4 cars at once going around its pretty neat how you can set up simletanious drifts in perfect formation with all the cars racing at once.

Tom-

MWAS is already in the process of organizing a winter drifting challenge. The parking lot is still being scoped out. You all will get PMs if interested in a few weeks with the location...

You are right though, winter CAN be fun!!!! Last year I went to one of these organized parking lot things and there were 25 cars there!!!! Includings a RWD 1986 Celica. Talk about fun in the snow!

cool....winter is a fun time. A lot of my friends have beaters too so we can maybe get a ig group together on a Friday night or a Saturday or something during a snowfall and go out "racing" (if you call it that) and then head out for a couple beers or something.

There are a couple guys from Midwest Autosports that are hunting for a good place to drift around at. Tommy mentioned that one out by him. I will start a new topic to see who's interested once we have a spot picked out and I will PM the location to you guys:thumbsup

I have all the confindence in the world in my 9C1 Caprice. In the last few months I've replaced the following.

1. The exhaust manifolds on both sides.
2. The radiator.
3. The oil cooler lines.
4. The oil pressure gauge sensor.
5. The O2 sensor.

Right now she runs like a champ, no smoking, no pinging or knocking. She had a 139K on the clock when I got her the last week in July, now she has a 143K on the clock. I'm sure she won't let me down this winter.

Yeah were gonna have to make winter beater racing a standard affair like monday BK's i think, as soon as we get enough snow to do so. Im just itching to throw the cav in a snow bank, i cant seem to get that car stuck!!! I drove it into a 3.5 high X 20 ft long pile of snow, stopped on purpose, couldnt even open the door !!! went to 2nd gear right away and matted it and it climbed right on through. The very next day my rear wheels were locked up because of all the snow packed in the rims LOL.

Where are we going to make this happen? Obviously we've got to wait until it snows...but the first big snow that hits, we should have a place that we can all get to.

Any suggestion's?

BTW, AWD ownz all joouz!

Ok, there should be some basic rules for winter beater status, IMO :D. Vehicle has to be at least 10 years old, some dents and/or rust, not minor surface rust or a couple dings and over 100k miles. I dont wanna see ringers racing against true beaters :goof ;). Or there should be two classes....anything goes in the snow and true winter beaters.

Prince Valiant
11-12-2003, 06:09 PM
So my jeep qualifies:

211,000 miles.
Rust on the front hood, rear tailgate, underbody.
1994 model that was built in 93, so that's 10 years old.
500 dollar investment.

I can't help it if I worked hard to clean the interior/exterior...I care for my beaters :D
