Just some shots of my failed spec stg 5 clutch... Took it apart last night, it doesnt look terribly worn in the pictures... however cintered iron disc is about 2/3 worn compared to how thick it was when new.

It lasted aprox 900 miles behind 750 ft/lbs when its rated to 1100 ft/lbs.

I bought this thing factory direct and the sales dude told me "oh yeah we got people that street drive these things all the time, they last alot longer than what we lead on, but we have to have a disclaimer on it"

It was a heavy pedaled, non shifting, loud (squealy) turd IMHO as a review.

It was wearing out very fast as the friction point cept moving further up the pedal travel each time i drove the car, it was at the point where i had like a 1/2" of feathering capability and it would start to squeal simultaneously when the turbo would start making noise. i could be rolling in 4th, tap the gas and it would slip... Felt like a loose ass converter haha

So im going to try and see if they will do something for me, in the name of a price break on a twin disc clutch they offer...

To be honest i was hoping that this thing would look more joggled out than a porn stars gine after a 50 dude gangbang... but of course i was let down when the pressure plate came off lol.

looks like they are willing to help... waiting to see what kinda discount i can get from them, the twin disc job retials for 1399. Id be happy with 10% + off that.

Tom, Thanks for contacting us with your questions. I can certainly
understand your concern and I have a few things of note that you may be
interesting in. To begin, stage 5 is for all intents and purposes a Race
Clutch (it is effectively 1/5 of a Top-Fuel Dragster assembly) and as such
it will not be as street friendly as other units that we offer.

Sintered Iron, the material used in stage 5 discs, has a tremendous friction
coefficient but it is soft in comparison to something like our stage 3+
disc, which is a CSM (carbon semi metallic) disc. This unit is driven on
the street by a number of people and has been for years...but it does have
some compromises (including noise during engagement, life expectancy, and
drivability).

The pictures you provided indicate consistent wear and show no real evidence
of trouble. The starting thickness of this disc is .330" and the thickness
as indicated by the picture you provided is .313". This means that you have
approximately .017 wear. Rate of wear is typically related to driving style
than anything else. Please realize that I am not accusing you of doing
anything wrong, I am just providing info on the potential cause of wear.

All this being said I am happy to offer you a discount on a new
kit...because we appreciate return customers. Please feel free to call me
with any questions you may have or to place and order. Thanks!

heh i just put snoops car back together and it has one... that sealed the deal for me, i could never have one of those with how far out i live. Ill tough out the 6 speed, not really intrested in harcore dragging the car anymore.

:rolf Rather just have a car that can shred the tires for half a mile and never get traction? :thumbsup

Sounds like a good time to me.....

Goes to show you, always ask a major company like that if they offer some kind of discount.

yeah 15% off a spec twin disc that is good to 1300 ft lbs... So that puts it at less cost than any mcleod twin or the cheapest spec twin too. Im pretty happy i contacted them about it.

thats pretty cool. can you resurface the flywheel or do you get a new one with the twin disc?

Nice, he says it's a race clutch and then goes on to say it's worn because of your driving style. Isn't a "race clutch" suppose to be abbused or is that just me?

I hope your next clutch holds up strong so you can enjoy your car longer.

This is the new pickle that showed up yesterday.
