View Full Version : How much do you spend in gas?

After doing some calculating and stuff this morning with gas mileage and such, Jeni and I spend a combined $400/month in gas.....not including the gas I put in the Biscayne when we take it out.

I've been averaging about 25mpg in the wagon and she gets about 26mpg in her Cavalier. How much do you guys spend? I was SHOCKED once I actually calculated our usage.....Its probably ± a little bit but still....why can't gas go back to $2/gallon :( I miss those days.....and my wallet does too

Me and my wife probably spend about $450-500 a month in gas. Probably more because I'm just trying to calculate that number in my head right now.

I spend about 5K a month for business and personal use. These prices are killing me! I can't put a gas surcharge on contracts that were signed six months ago. We have raised our prices and current gas charge is 10% soon to be 15%.

I am probably 400 a month in just my neon. But I drive alot as I live far away from work. But my rent is UBER cheap to make up for it. Gas prices don't effect me. I still drive the shit outta my car. Nothing I can do about the price. SO I just keep cruising and enjoying my car. So I don't get to eat out as much. Oh well.

I fill up once a week for around $50. the Monte avgs around 23mpg with almost all city driving.

i switch on and off vehicles weekly between the S10 and monte, the camaro is not included yet.

rougly 60$ to fill each once a week so about 240$ a month in gas. Gotta pick up a bike ASAP to cut that in half hopefully.

It costs me 340 bucks a month to drive to work in my truck, thank goodness I only work 3 days a week.

I have been riding the bike now that its nicer out, if I ride the bike to work every day I only spend 85 bucks.

I think I spend from $200 to $300 a month.

Last week i figured I would do the math on the milage. Car said it's getting 25.5 mpg but when I did the math it said I was getting 23.2 MPG. The math is what I been going by when thinking about it the G6 only gets three more miles to gallon then my truck did which is bull Sh*t. I hate that car.
All I do is drive to work and to softball games and my car is probably 95% freeway driven a week. When I am on the freeway I am the guy that sets his cruise about 5 over the speed limit. Weekends I spend sitting in my apartment not going all over tarnation like I use to do back when it was $2.00 a gallon. I use to go on rides just for something to do. Now I will try not to go anywhere unless I have multiple places to go and there next to each other. If I get bored in my apartment I will take the dog for a walk or go and talk to Neighbors at my apartment complex.

my truck gets 13 mpg, so if i drive that 5 days a week to work it comes out $92 a week.

my mustang gets about 18 mpg, so that comes out to $64 a week.

my wifes milan gets 28 mpg, so that comes out to $43 a week.

in the average week, i take my car once, my truck once, and her car the remaining 3 days. roughly figuring that out, I use about $60 a week, so around $240 a month just getting to work. There are weeks that I use the truck all 5 days though, and that adds up, LOL!

Nick
05-20-2008, 09:18 AM
Now that I fill up once every 7 days and not every 3...

Between $200 and $250 a month

Probably less once I get my new mountain bike

dfr225
05-20-2008, 09:19 AM
lets say my work truck is empty, it'll cost about 55-60 to fill and that disappears after like 3 days ( 190 miles to 16 gallons of fuel..ouch lol )

my car is about alittle over 60 to fill completely up.

SmokinRAM114
05-20-2008, 09:19 AM
200 in diesel in the DD, and 300+- for diesel in the race rig. and $150 in race fuel for the bike.. yikes.

Just for the wife and I to get to work - ~$500/month. She works in Illinois, I work in Franklin so my drive isn't too bad.

Add in all other driving and it's probably close to $650-750/month depending on if we take any trips.

are you guys shocked by this? $700/month is more than my last apartment cost per month! $700/month times 12 is close to what West Allis thinks is appropriate for property taxes :rolf

I vote you turn this into a poll.. To make it easier see the results..

I spend about $200-300 a month.. Thats why rising gas prices don't really freak me out.. I fill up my car once ever 2 weeks, the wifes van once every 2-3 weeks and the Mustang maybe once a month..

NO kidding 700/month is a TON for gas, can't believe some of you guys pay that!... I fill up about once a week at ~$50, so figure $200-$250 a month. I get about 19-20 MPG in the 240, and maybe once I play with the tune a bit more I can bump it up an MPG or 2.

Now as a side note, $700 a month in West Allis for property taxes?! :durr You sure? You own a 5000 sq/ft house or something?

Yup it sucks. In our case, my drive is only 14 miles one way to work. Not much of an issue. The wife drives a bit more being in FIBland. But, even with what it costs in gas, a job here in WI doesn't pay near enough to make up what we'd cut out in gas. So, it's still worth it to drive there for work. Her next car is going to definitely be more efficient given the amount she drives though. The old v6 Avenger does ok; she gets 26-29 mpg with it, but that still sucks when a one-way commute is 50+ miles (sometimes more depending on the day).

dfr225
05-20-2008, 09:51 AM

$90.00 a week in the truck, gets 17mpg and its 30 miles a day gaurentee to go to work and home. Camaro gets 13 and if i take it out its usally half tank so thats like 35 bucks to fill everytime that comes out. Id say i spend about 300-350 a month easy.

I was driving my Excursion daily and in one month, also with the wife driving to work and using the fun cars a little on the weekends, I think we were just under $600. I guess it's time to have at least one vehicle without a v8 (or larger).

Great thread J!

Smokey1226

It really Depends on how many times i have to deliver in a month. So if none (which has never happened) i can make it through the month on 1 tank. $130 +/-

If i have to tow usually twice a month I have to fill up 3 times. $400

The good part for me, 18 Miles round trip to work and back. 8 miles round trip to the Golf Course and back from home. Most friends/Cousin live either within walking distance or under 3 miles. So that helps big time.

My wife's commute is going from 70 miles a day round trip to 10 miles round trip starting the May 27th, at 15mpg we should notice the money in our pocket right away. :thumbsup:banana1::headbang:D:banana

My commute is like 2 miles so gas prices dont hit me that bad.
We also still cruise around on the weekends in the Cobra but not as much as we did 2 years ago when gas was "cheap". :rolf

nissan gets 33mpg on average and i drive 102.6 miles sat and sunday, and 108.7 miles M-F = 748.47 miles a week just to work and back. that is 22.69 gallons per week= $90.76 a week= 363.04 a month.

I don't even bother trying to calculate it, it doesn't bother me any. Like I mentioned in a different thread, a while back, I don't have kids or high bills, our rent isn't too bad, so what the hell? Gotta spend it on something. Plus, when I take one of the cars to get gas, there's always the added fun of making a smartass comment to the inevitable person that says "That's gotta be a killer at the pump......."

Never went into boost, kept it under 3000rpm at all times.

Driving all old n' shit will save me $1.53 PER DAY on gas.

I literally just did the SAME exact test with the Subie wagon to see what the results would be. Started with a full tank of Shell 93 and drove it down to dam near nothin. Last tank of gas I got 25.3 mpg and this tank driving "grandpa-style" I got 25.4, dam near no change. Not even enough to say the .1 better MPG was a result or driving easier on the pedal. Well, back to driving like normal I guess. I was hoping I would see close to 28mpg if I can get 25 driving however I want

What I spend on gas fluctuates. We were paying around $250 assuming we didn't go to Michigan. Each trip to Michigan adds another ~32 gallons of gas.

just trade it in Scott....the deals on trucks right now are really good. A lot are offering 0% financing

I have a 2007 G6 I bought last October. G6s aren't worth a shit on trade-in.

It has saved us about $2,000 in highway mileage and reduced operating costs over my Silverado/GMT800 but it gets the same shitty mileage as my Silverado in the city. If I wouldn't lose my ass on trading it in I'd get another pickup. The G5 sucks for going long distances but the G6 costs just as much to operate as a pickup with a much worse residual value. So, I think we can deal with the crappiness of the G5 for long distances if we need to.

The G6 is definitely a nice expressway car though. Just too fat for city use.

Yep I took mine in to find out what kind of trade in I could get and they would only give me 12,500. That price was given by two dealers. Pretty much in order not to completly screw myself with monthly payments more then what I have now I would of had to get a 2003 or older truck.
