Just got back from St. Louis after attending WSC1 over the weekend, but one thing that made the whole trip worth wild was seeing the St. Louis Arch. What a breathtaking masterpiece to see it up close for the first time. Here are some pictures. Thanks for looking! :)

Great pics.

Im not affraid of heights in any way or form but going up to the top of that thing does not sit well with me. I just dont understand the engineering behind it that keeps it from falling over. :rolf

It's a fun ride to the top in the little egg they cram you in. Not really made for people taller than 6'.

At the top you could feel the arch swaying back and forth like a sea boat. It was kind of weird but yeah I'm not afraid of heights ether, only when I'm falling from it. :D

I remember the first time I saw that thing when we went down there for the WFC. I thought it was going to be some small arch, but no its fricken huge. Id like to take it apart and sell the metal, gotta be worth a fortune now, its all stainless steel.

call me a tard, but i know nothing about the Arch...so, my questions may sound stupid.
how wide is it at the base? what kind of elevator takes you up to the top? it must rotate or something to stay level, correct?

cool pictures!

My mother used to work at one of the top non-residential floors of the Sears tower. She has told me so many times how "On a clear day, you can see the Arch from Chicago" which is incredible.

Damn, that's badass. Nice pics.

I never knew there was an elevator in it. How much does it cost to go up?

Nice pics!

Was up close a few years ago but didn't go for the egg ride.

Flew into STL a few weeks ago and saw it from the plane. That was neat!

If I remember correctly its something like 670-750 feet wide at the base. The elevator is on a rotating cage inside the structure. It levels out as you go up, feels very strange inside of it. And oh yeah, the floor you are standing on at the very top is glass.

Correct everything he said

$10 to go to the top, bring a stick to poke little kids out of the way.
