ok. what could possibly be better than buying a gun with my stimulus check (besides porn and beer). Anyway, I know I have had threads in the past asking about what gun to get ect, but I decided that I want to get one with part of my check. I would like to get a pistol for $400 or less. suggestions?

is Gander a good place to look? I heard they have some decent prices from time to time.

Id check sportsmans warehouse first. If nothing there catches your fancy, hit up Badger outdoors and shooters shop and haggle a price.

On a GOOD sale you should be able to scare up a 4" service model for around $450. Or a nice USED 5" tactical model for around $375-450. Its hard to find a nice handgun under $400. Pretty much anything that cheap generaly sucks. $500 -$1000 is where most NICE handguns are priced.

well I mean if its somewhere NEAR $400 thats fine. I just dont have $1000 to spend on a gun that Im not going to use all the time.

one other questions. Does anyone sell pistols for left handers? I do everything right handed but when it comes to shooting, I'm a lefty.

lol why?

Hard to find and they usually charge a premium.

This is your best bet for a nice gun that can be fired left handed....

Stick with the XD, basically ambidextrous. It does not have a thumb safety like many other handguns. Instead, it has a grip safety and a safety built into the trigger. You can obviously pull the slide back with either hand. I agree with Breecher, if you're looking for the best bang for your buck, go with the XD. I'd get a .40S&W as opposed to a 9mm.

A 45 ACP would be ideal, but you're price goes up in the gun and ammo. 40 S&W is still cheap ammo and it has more "ooompf" than a 9mm.

What size are you looking for?

I have a Taurus Millennium Pro in .40SW.

It's pretty small. Got it for carry. You can hide it anywhere and it's 10+1.

I've run a lot of rounds through it. Including some really crappy ones that barely fell out of the barrel. It hasn't ever jammed.

I've got $420 into it and that's including 5 factory clips and a case.

My next one is probably going to be a M&P .45 or a Taurus 24/7 longslide .45.

Congrats, you purchased a piece of junk..... :thumbsup

Woohoo, thanks. Why? Is it because it's not made in China like all the american manufacturers? Or because it has cast parts instead of stamped drillpress shavings like S&W and Glock? Because the rails don't fall out like a Glock? Honestly, I'd like to know so I can buy something else next time. It's not a $750 pistol so comparing it to a Sig isn't right.

Untill Recently Taurus has NEVER made a good firearm. The one you purchased is decent but I would not recommend it to anyone. As far as S&W and Glocks, im onboard with your line of thinking. I dont care for them either.

I have owned and do own a LARGE amount of firearms. I have a class 3 firearms permit and now a FFL. I used to do alot of competition shooting and ive carried different firearms in a combat situation and know what has performed for me and others ive worked with.

Hitman, Untill you have somthing intelligent to say regarding the topic at hand, keep it shut. And as I said in the other thread, if you have a issue with me, take it to PM and ill work it out with you like an adult.

Thanks! :thumbsup

I'm no firearm expert, far from it. I dabble, at best. I basically reload .40SW, .44mag, .45ACP, .308, and .303 British. That's about all I do. I have a Remington 870 that I use for aerating the lawn. I've never been to a competition in my life and I don't hunt anything but pests. I basically have weapons and a stash of ammunition for the day when the government is run by a bunch of granola eaters and make it impossible for the average person to get firearms and ammo.

Everything I buy in life is "dollar vs value". So, I'd like to know what can be had in the sub-$600 "Gander Mountain" range for a pistol that you actually get your money's worth. You're not going to get a SigSauer, Kimber, or a Para Ordnance for that. I kind of like the M&P and the XD series but they both feel cheap like a Glock. The XD is only a butterfly's fart away from a Sigma.

Taurus' firearms are hit and miss. There is no way in hell I'd buy a Millennium but the Millennium Pro is a decent firearm, especially for $300. It's got like a 15lb trigger pull (my gauge only goes to 15lbs) but it's as reliable as can be. I can run 5 clips through it as fast as I want and it doesn't perform any different from first to last.

The XD series firearms have performed outstanding for myself and everyone else I know who has owned them. For a tad over $500 it is the best bang for the buck handgun you can purchase IMO. They are not cheaply made by any means, they are more solid then a glock or ANY other polymer gun I have ever owned/fired. They are the perfect combination of price and quality.

And I know for a fact there are MANY bcm members that will stand behind this statement.

I have a tactical XD45. It's nice, but my Dad has a S&W Sigma in .40SW (he bought it at the same time I did my Millennium Pro). My XD reminds me of his Sigma. What about the new S&W M&P?

Intelligent? How much intellect is required to tell somebody that something they purchased with their hard earned money is a "piece of junk"? You like the XD. Fantastic. You've explained why you like it. Great. These are your opinions. Apparently you feel as though said opinions carry more water than those of anybody else's, so not only is their input un-required but also worthy of ridicule, as are their alternative gun choices. If only we could all be a cool as someone that doesn't have enough sense not to swallow diesel fuel...:durr

If anybody should should shut down their diarrhea-of-the-keyboard, it should be you, Johnny Gun-Critic.

I'll make you a deal. You start acting like an adult, and maybe I'll treat you like one.
