View Full Version : First photoshoot of the season. My Jeep + STi + HDR

Well, after finally finishing the after-winter clean up on my Jeep, a buddy and I went out for a quick, spur of the moment shoot. All HDR images shot with my D-Reb XT and the 18-55 kit lens which is finally starting to take a dump on me. Time for a new lens soon, and it will be a 18-250 for sure.

Anyways, enjoy the pics. Lot's of time spent processing, except for the damn lens flare in one. It really started to piss me off so I just left it. The last few images still need more processing as they looked fine on my laptop, but once seeing them on a real monitor, I see they have a lot of work left to do.....BOO Laptop!!!

ah yes.....I had this one printed on a canvas 16x20 and mounted on a pine frame. If anyone is interested in having anything printed like that, let me know, it's a friend of mine that does this (his company)

Holy damn, that's awesome. :o

Hey do you cruise around Mequon/Theinsville a lot? I've seen a black SRT cruising around a few times.

johnny--2k
05-06-2008, 09:26 AM
Thanks guys.

Nope, very rarely am I in mequon. I know there are a few others in the area. As for a drop, I would love to, but there are two problems: I already have less ground clearance in the front than my 05 TL, and there is no suspension out for it as of yet. Eibach has been promising a kit for a while, and it keeps getting pushed back by a month or two weeks or another week.....blah blah blah, but if it comes out, it will be about another 1.5 all around.

The SRT8 is already about 1.5 inches lower than a standard Grand Cherokee, and the suspension is all tuned by Bilstein from the factory.

Nope. It's the Limited, so it comes with a factory lip spoiler, leather, heated seats and a MoonRoof. Only 800 made for 2007 only, 400 in Urban Grey Metallic and 400 in Pearl White.

they have a hybrid parking?? is that a joke? lol. why? they should park furthest away cuz they get such good gas milege.

btw. amazing pictures!!

johnny--2k
05-08-2008, 08:42 AM
Thanks! And yes, the hybrid parking was CLOSER TO THE DOOR than the disabled parking. I was actually pretty pissed about that myself!!!

Out of 4 forums I posted this on, you are the 2nd person to catch/comment on the hybrid thing. If your ever out and I see you, I'm buying you a drink!!!

Was playing around with high dynamic range and tonemapping and came up with this.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc93/xND4SPDx/Other%20Cars/1-n4And4More_tonemapped.jpg

I'd need at least 3 exposures of the same image to do it properly though. Hope you don't mind me messing around with your pictures. For some reason car pics with parking garage back drops seem to turn out really nice in HDR. :)

johnny--2k
05-08-2008, 10:53 AM
Not at all. Those look great! A bit over-processed for my liking, they are bordering "cartoonish" and that's when I start to think they look weird, just not a natural picture if you know what I mean. Not bad though by any means!

ND4SPD
05-08-2008, 11:13 AM
Yeah, I'm just learning how to mess around with HDR. Some people like the hand-drawn/cartoonish look, some don't. That was kinda the object of the HDR processing I did. I think it makes for an interesting artistic format.

johnny--2k
05-08-2008, 11:53 AM
Oh yeah, no doubt. It's all in the eye of the beholder in this case. There is artistic, like what you have done, then there is just plain overkill, like this

ND4SPD
05-08-2008, 01:02 PM
Uh woah... yeah that's way overdone. The SRT-8 didn't come out as well as I'd hoped... but as I said 3 exposures are needed in order to do it. I may need to borrow you and your camera to do some shots of my Supra one of these days.

any time. I'm doing a shoot for pw cc runner as well whenever he lets me know he's ready, so I can let you know as well. Make it a group deal.

The SRT looks great. Those HID's are crazy! I would leave the suspension alone. Looks fine how it is and it's already designed to work together. No sense in changing a good thing.

I really need to get a Digital SLR. We have a pretty nice Canon digital... but it's not a DSLR. :( Lol, anyone want a nice slightly used Canon EOS Elan SLR? Takes fantastic 35MM pictures. :D Yeah, definitely let me know too if you're planning on going out for a photoshoot Johnny. Shoot me a PM or E-mail if you know far enough in advance. If I'm not doing daddy daycare or working, I'd like to get in on it. I've never had any really nice pictures taken of my car and I don't think I'm ready to spring for full-on professional photos until I have the car repainted and touched up.

Chad, you need to keep saving for a car remember... don't get sidetracked. ;) I did some quick HDR pics of my daily driver and my wife's car... but I don't want to hijack this thread any more than I already have... so I'll post those in a separate thread.

johnny--2k
05-09-2008, 10:02 AM
not him on the NASIOC site. As for the DSLR, you can get the XT like mine fairly cheap now, and the XTi is not too much more.
