I just finished up my tubo set up on my 65k, 03 sierra z71. It has a t4 t66 turbo, water meth, air to air intercooler, 39lb injectors, and a z06 cam. right now it is putting 406 to the wheels with 8 lbs of boost with 89 octane and I just started to tune. Tomorrow I will be putting 93 octane and 12 lbs of boost to it. my goal is to have my daily driven truck to be dependable and run the quarter in the 12's. my questions are how much horsepower is safe on a 5.3 and how much boost is safe? I will sacrifice power for safety. Should I leave it 406 or should I shoot for about 450 ( my original goal ). What do you guys think? Oh and when I say I just started to tune I don't meen me, I have a professional shop doing it.

I was wondering how long it was gonna take you to post this up. The truck looks awesome.

You need to build that tranny though.... :stare

I reread my post and it ounds like I did the work. I did not. It was all done by Forest at West Bend Dyno. He does awesome work, And is a great guy to deal with, with very fair prices on the work he does. I did not mean for it to sound like I did the work. Forrst and West Bend Dyno deserve all the credit.

bad cutt those injectors worked, I told ya so. my opinion and thats all it is, i would not run much more than 10psi unless its intercooled and/or aftercooled just my 02 cents worth

Well it has an intercooler and meth injection.

But I agree...

forest

yup, went to 10psi today and split 2 boost couplers..... 10 will do just fine lets say. This thing shredds tires nasty on the rollers and I even have it strapped straight down fron the hitch as well, and Im not near done yet. :)

forest

customer supplied turbo, intercooler, BOV, wastegate, injectors, and a lot of other misc parts..... But yes, it does need more intercooler, hence the water meth for now

So, we test drove the truck tonight, HOLY SHIT is it fast. I am very happy with the outcome. Hopefully the rest of the tuning will be done tomorrow. I am gonna be in need of a tranny soon, looking for a 4l80e. here are a couple pics.

Just get your 65e built and you will be fine. Its much less of a hassle then swapping to a 80.

Got a boost controller on order yet? :rolf

not yet. I will try and find a core 65 to build

Im just hoping it makes it through the dyno session tonight...... I have seen vette trannies blow with 425rwhp  and this truck is heavier with more tracion in 4wd....

If the thing makes any kind of proper power, don't expect any 4L6xE to last long!! Coming from a guy with a bit of Turbo 4WD 4L60 experience! ;)

If you have the money for a 4L80, by all means DO IT!

so, I got my truck back today. It is dangerously fast. I already am making plans to build a tranny.

yea turbo chevys.................. my buddy has a twin turbo SS silvy. snapped the out put shaft last spring. Kilpatricks built a mean billet trans but i dont see it lasting long either. especially loosing traction with 4 wheels all the time.

Let's see some quantifiable numbers for these turbo trucks... They sound cool, but "fast" could be 11 seconds or it could be 14 seconds.

you will as soon as he gets a trans that holds the power, all i know is that on the test drive with him, it was doing 4wd burners at 30mph on 20s. Once he gets the trans done i can feed it on the dyno and get some real numbers for all to see.

it went 12.6 but a/f was wayyyyyyyyy rich(left the filters on and couldnt pull the cfm). it now has new turbos, better trans, and more cfm. he doesnt care to race just likes to cruise and romp on it time to time. its going to be forsale with in the next week or two. if i had the money i would love to have it. there are a few people on here that can vouch for the truck.

Good choice......

There prices are pretty reasonable. They did a 4l60 for a friend of mine last month for a very good price and has so far taken a good beating. I wouldnt skimp on anything though.. Putting all that power to the ground via 4wd is going to murder your transmission. Have them do it right and pay the bill.....

being done absolutely correctly. charlie is going to give me an 18 month parts and labor warranty to hold up to 450-500 rwhp, so it will definitely be done right.
