Well today my 16 year old sister got into her first accident and totaled her car.
From what she says is she checked 2x and didn't see anything and then bam she got hit coming out of the intersection. The guy who hit her (was driving a Dodge Ram) claimed he was going about 30 MPH.... By the looks of the damage to the car and the wheel I would say this guy had to be flying. But their was no way to prove his speed, according to the cop. He claims my sister flew out in front of him. You can go ahead and make fun of my 16 old sis and claim that she can't drive and blah blah blah....but she actually is a good driver and accidents just happen. She is pretty upset about it because my grandfather who passed away in 2007 gave her that car before he passed. She is okay, few cuts on her face and some bruising. She had her seat belt on, but she is onl 4'9" and sits pretty close to the steering wheel. Here is the result of the hit.

Damn that sucks, sorry to see the bad news, thank god she is OK. If he was in a Ram I think that looks like about a 30MPH hit. 30 mph is still pretty fast when hitting something moving perpendicular.

BTW, you can't prove his speed? Take his ass to court and subpoena the cars accident computer or "black box"

Good luck with that. Actually to me it does look like a 30-35mph broadside.

definitely glad she is ok. hopefully she isnt too sore tomorrow. i doubt his truck had a 'black box'. the ram in the back ground with the messed up bumper appears to be a pre 2000. and judging by the damage, id say he was going 35 max, anymore that and that car would be more crushed.

WTF? Both airbags deployed? From a right rear quarter hit? Or did she hit that pole afterward?

I got T-boned 2 weeks after getting my drivers license (though that was the other guys fault)... he came flying out of a parking lane at a mall into the perimeter road. Anyway, shit happens... everyone gets into accidents sooner or later. Tell her she just got hers out of the way sooner rather than later.

The impact woke up the arming sensors then a rapid decel of sorts took place from the way it was hit enough to deploy them, so she must have been moving forward above 10 mph. They work on how quickly it decel's, not necsecarily by what it hits, it does need some shock to wake the system up though.

so what are you and your sister going to get, and for that matter, is your insurance going to go up? Becareful, as some insurance companies will drop you if there is three accidents in one year for the same family......happened to my family, when the horizon and my 91 saleen clone got totaled (both not our faults) and my mom got hit by a drunk lady in her tracer (front end, got fixed)

The Mustang is still under my grand parents policy with my sister on as a secondary driver and im on insurance with my mom. The guy who came to the house to look at it said not to take less than 6k for the car with the low miles and almost mint condition until the accident.

Might work out better this way...not saying accidents are good but there's no way you would get 6k for it otherwise.

Thats what I told her. The car has sentimental value to her, so this morning I took all the Mustang badges off for her. Since the car was still in my Grandma's name and my sister hadn't paid my Grandma yet, whatever we get for the car my Grandma gets 3k.

How do you look twice and not see anything? Impossible.
I can roll stop signs and notice if someone is coming from a mile away :P

She probably was distracted & didn't want to admit it :P
What 16yr old is gonna say "oh yea it was totaaaaally my fault" - none.
