View Full Version : Anybody want some fish?

I think I may be in trouble in a couple days. You see, one of my fish laid some eggs last night. They are just cheap White Cloud Mountain Minnow fish ($1.99 at the pet store and they stay small - an inch full-size). From a little internet searching, they will hatch in a couple days. I'm not sure how many actually survive and hatch, but there are a lot of eggs. Obviously, breeding fish wasn't my intentions here. So anybody want any cute little fish? They are free to a good home. I don't want to hear about them being fed to some bigger fish. If that is your intentions, don't tell me and don't let it get back to me. They work well in a groups as they are "schooling" fish. You can't determine gender of the fish until they are an adult though, so that kind of sucks.

They are a very hardy fish, so if you have a history of fish dieing often, you should be fine with these as long as you feed them and keep them in water.

If nobody wants any, I will just use the gravel cleaner and get rid of the eggs (although feel extremely guilty). I made the additional mistake of picking up a few more of the same fish yesterday. So if any hatch and survive, I will have way more then I can handle.

Fish are in New Berlin. I have a few fish bags here, but not that many.

Chances are that the adult fish will eat the young.

thats why you put a spacer in the tank....or you put the eggs in a hatcher box that hangs on the side of the tank....

I thought so too, but after some breeding websites on this type of fish, I learned that they don't always eat their young. They are peaceful little fish. And apparently reproduce like bunnies.

I guess it depends on how small the young are.

I recently finished a project in developmental biology where I studied the effects of terotogens on developing zebra danios.

Step 1: mate danios
Step 2: collect eggs
Step 3: Profit?

It just may depend on how many hatch. I can't keep them, but I am sure you will put them in a nice tank and feed them fish flakes.
