Is there any way to save a windshiled that has a crack in it without replacing the whole thing? The crack is at the right-side corner, right where the windshield meets the hood area, and it's about 3.5 inches long, very thin.....I just don't want it to suddenly get really bad, which I fear will happen eventually.

I always hear that auto glass specialists commercial, where they say they can fix a crack that isn't longer than a dollar bill, with their "special resin"

I'm sure it's no different than the resin you can buy at Advance/Vato zone.

Should be repairable in any event.

I always thought the resin injection was for bullseye rock chips, in an attempt to keep them from spidering out into large cracks.

No I dont think this windscreen can be fixed, the resin injection is $100 for another $150 you can probably have a whole new glass installed.

Good luck.

Oh well........I suppose I could just get a different one, maybe the fancy one with the antennae for the radio right inside the glass. Damn this sucks.

When I got a Dime size chip in my windshild my insurance paid for it. But Safelite Auto Glass fixed it for me and they charged my insurance $60. Cost of a new windshield for my truck was about 250.

Add $40 for the aerial in the glass.

Those inside the glass antennas don't work very well. What kind of car do you need glass for? Sedans and coupes sometimes have different sizes in the same model line. Convertible glass is always differently shaped in a lot of GM stuff

I need the glass (if "Auto Glass Specialists" don't work out) for a '79 Z28 (non-convertible) Camaro. I called them and they said they can fix it, though......we'll see what happens......

Hopefully you get s skinny guy by the name of aaron. He is in the top 5 through out the state. I used to work at Safelite& Autoglass specialists. The repair kits really do work alot better then the autozone ones. They use a vacuum system to get it in there. All you should be able to see would be a clear outline of where the crack was. Or sometimes they do disapear entirely.

Also I do apologize for those god awful comercials, but now I work at abra autoglass. I can definetly say if you do get a windshield replaced tell them you DO NOT want the SGC glass. It is shit and they really shouldn't sell it. But that is why it is so cheap there.

A junkyard will usually help you pull one out for 75-100. Not that hard to cut yours out and install the new one. Kinda fun actually.

any cracks larger than an inch will more than likely even when fixed still split, this is due to the extreme climatic changes very cold outside, hot defrost vents blowing on the windshield inside, very hot outside cold a/c on inside, call you ins. man, usually it is coverede for replacment under comprehensive without aq deducatable or raising rates

Seriously, you should just get the entire windshield replaced. You wouldn't believe how much better you're going to be able to see out of the new windshield as compared to an old/used one. New glass, kicks ass...

Well....I decided to just replace the whole thing.....I figure, what the hell, replaced everything else, why stop now? Auto Glass Specialists have the windshields in stock, they are going to come out, install it, the whole deal for a REALLY good price. I even went out and bought an awesomely cool new rearview mirror. For some warped reason, I am actually kinda excited at the prospect of a BRAND NEW windshield, lol....I am sooooo easily amused.....;)

Do your self a favor and make sure it is not a SGC glass. Very poor quality!! I have very rarely had a good install with this brand glass. Just trying forwarn you.
