The first couple of pages you will get the idea of what the issue is, then click to the last page. There is currently a class action lawsuit in works on behalf of the consumer. Sure enough jacked my junk up today and there a rip was. I will contacting BMW tomorrow to hopefully get this resolved.

JUST A HEADS UP TO FELLOW BIMMER DRIVERS.

well first I will say that this is not unique to E46. I've seen it happen with E30, E34, E31 (8 series), E36 and E46.

it's poor design the metal they use for the subframe area is super thin and the weld is inadequate and poorly done.

I better go look at the e30 now...

all it will take is a few accidents and unfortunately people getting injured and or killed and i gurantee nhtsa will make them recall it. unless bmw decides to wise up on their own and do the right thing

rear suspension and subframe rust, tears bushings pulled threw

the sub frame mounted points' metal is to thin, the sub frame twists from the torque from the drive train eventually ripping the mounting point to shreds. there has not been any confirmed deaths yet but definitely creates a huge safety concern. BMW Germany has recalled the 3 series for this issue but not in the US. What happens when a mother and children die cause the rear end detaches itself on the highway or something.........

Hmmm, just 3 series? I beat the fuk out of my car so it has to be messed up if this issue has to do with a 7 series.

Edit: looks like I'm good. I drive a big body. Not the little 3 series.

Got the call today, BMW will be flipping the bill for this. Although the dealer is not offering me a loaner, so it looks like BMWNA will be getting a call on monday to hopefully remedy this problem. Keep you posted

Ha, just saw this. My buddy had this happen to his 323Ci just recently. He made a call to BMWNA and they are covering it too. This is also a common problem on the E36 (92-98 3 series), but I've already taken precautionary measures.

Anybody have a direct contact number for this? If I should be concerned about the 323i, I wouldn't mind making a phone call to be perfectly sure. Thanks!
