My Dad is just wondering if there is any intrest:

1978 Jeep CJ5
2,8XX original miles, original V-8 304, 3 speed manual, 4 wheel drive, Removable canvas top and doors.

Belts and hoses will be replaced and a new Canvas top.

My Dad is the 3rd owner, his neighbor previously owned it but it sat in the garage and the 1st owner bought it New to take his grand kids through his woods.

$7,000.00 obo
(My father has done his research and knows how much these go for)

This Vehicle is located in U.P. Michigan

Hes definitly selling to a niche market. Id love to own this thing but i cant get myself to fork that kind of coin over for it. Id rather just buy a new custom frame from quadratec and go from there at that point.

VERY nice piece though, hope he gets what he wants out of it!

Can anyone figure out what is so special about it?

is it rare?

ummm... theres 2,8XX miles on it and the original 304 V8 motor and trans, thats rare. It even has the next oil change sticker on it.
And people like to make rock crawlers out of them.

If the frame is decent, which I doubt, you may pull $4500.
Just some info for ya.

the frame is clean. my dad had an offer of 8k for it but he didnt want to sell it yet at the time.

my dad had an offer of 8k for it but he didnt want to sell it yet at the time.

If that offer was within the last 5 years, it was silly to refuse.
Motor looks to need some seals and gaskets.
Is the rear axle an AMC20?
Tranny may be the T18, which has a rediculous 6.32:1 first gear.
If you want to sell it, I would start at $5k or so.

g/l with the sale. How do you only put 2800 miles on a truck in that time period without disconnecting the speedo? that'd drive me batty having a 4x4 I don't use

Thats a CJ5 not a CJ7, discontinued in the mid 80's due to
its short wheelbase (Had a few, best model made IMO).

The trans is a T-15, not superduty but hold up fine for what
powerplant is in there.

Yes its gonna have a AMC20 not a Dana 44 (last seen about 1975).

The 304 will accept a 401 drop in, no mods needed.

As far as desirable a I-6 with a 4 spd, early Dana 44 rear would
be the most desirable with an older v-6/4spd/twin stick behind
that. Personely I would jump on this one as a builder if the frame
at the spring hangers is solid (rivet area's). Last of the REAL
Jeeps (yah I know It needs updates but the CJ5 and flatfenders
are the $#*%).

Just noticed the color change, the underhood is original Golden
Eagle while the outside Red was not available......repainted at 2k?

Not uncommon for paint but the earlier price quotes look closer to real world.

I didnt think it was a CJ7, didnt want to open my mouth though. CJ7's were BIG compared to the CJ5's

You guys are correct its a CJ5.
Where can I find the paint codes.

Michigan DMV screwed up on the title.

.

On the firewall, 2 digit code yours was originaly tan or gold.
If it came red it would have black seats.

It has been sitting in the first owners garage and was only used for going through the woods during the summer.
NO there isn't 102K on it, the next oil change is at 2900 miles...

Not a chance, the list of inconsistencies is long. They lied to your
dad when he bought it, people suck that way if its worth a buck
to them, sorry. Im a big fan of your jeep at any rate, just wont pull
that kind of money Im afraid.

The shackels, bat cables, missing AIR pump, twisted bumper, paint
and other stuff just cant be done in 3000 miles or 30yrs of sitting.
To put your own mind at ease look at the fuel and brake peddles,
I've backed up odometers on 80,000 mile cars that had better rubber.
Not your fault it happens, hope he gets good money its not that bad
of shape for its era.
