computer help needed

I just had Windows Vista removed and XP Pro installed, everything is working mint except the sound.
It appears my sound driver is installed correctly and I ran a troubleshoot on it and everything came back as "no problems found". I have no sound at all, and yes the speakers are on.
any ideas?

Remove the sound drivers.

Reinstall.

Try this obvious thing first :)
start...run.. sndvol32

Make sure the volume isn't on mute, it happens!
