View Full Version : Need your headlights / taillights tinted?

I know a bodyman that will be doing a few sets the last week of the month, a pair of tail lights will be 60 bucks and a pair of headlights will also be 60 bucks. He will prep and paint them, all you do is drop them off then pick them up. Is anyone interested in this? I am going to have my set sprayed with a real light tint to them as well, debating on doing the 3rd brake light too. I guarentee the quality will be above average.

I want to do the rear tail lights on my wifes Volvo V70 wagon. They have 4 sections so they are pretty long, will 60 bucks cover those or would it cost me more?

How dark would he be doing them??

pOrk
04-12-2008, 05:43 PM
Up to you really^ He told me he can do as dark as you want up to BLACK. Tail lights will be visible at night with BLACK, but hardly visible during the day most likely.

pOrk
04-13-2008, 07:54 PM
Monday the 28th is when he will be tinting, so if you could drop them off to me by then or the day of at his place that would work. They will most likely be done the same day unless ofcourse any dirt gets in the clear then they would be wet sanded the following morning.

it's just like painting a part. its all in the prep work, and if you take your time and do a good job, it turns out good. i've done 3 sets, 2 turned out bad, mostly because i rushed. 3rd time turned out fine.

Spray bomb is ghetto and it doesn't last :banana1:

Ive seen spray bombed tinted tails and they dont even shine look like flat black paint.
I have done several sets of lights the proper way and they look awesome,

pOrk
04-15-2008, 12:57 AM
They don't last, your right it is all in the prep but spray bomb and base coat clear coat are totally different ball games. I used the Nightshades crap on my s10 tails and it looks OK but after 3 months in the sun the spraybomb clear I used had lost its gloss and they needed to be re-done by the time spring rolled around.

Would you spray bomb your entire car and expect it to last as long as a base coat / clear coat jobber?

exactly how much does it dim the headlights by having it done? Reason I'm asking is for the 'Busa. I think it'd look pretty cool that way, but obviously only having ONE headlight, i don't want to take away TOO much of the light

can you have different shades of black? i mean some darker and some lighter? is it dependant on the number of coats used?

PB86MCSS
04-19-2008, 12:48 PM
I used the Niteshade stuff on my SS, did all the side markers and tails. Just remove the lenses and spray them from the inside so it retains the natural glossy look...my car doesn't sit in the elements or sun so I guess I can't say if it would fade or not, but its been a few years and no fade so far...I've been pleased with the look :D . I first tried a tailight set by painting the outside and it looked like crap. Not saying getting them done "professionally" isn't wise, just the Niteshade is a much cheaper alternative and if done right, can look probably just as good.

night shades is one way you can do it but for those that want the paint quality to match the quality of their vehicles and be able to buff the clear along with the paint then this is the way to go :) some ppl have had god luck with sray bomb clear

The tail lights turned out perfect. Their is not a single flaw and the tint is exactly even. Clear coat is perfect. Great work all around.

It was also very easy to get a hold of Eric to drop off/pick up/contact. I'm already thinking about getting some other stuff tinted in the next group.

Yeah, I live in Delafield and work in Hartland. You guys can stop by and check them out if you want, just send me a message and I'll give you my address. Just give me a day or two to install the tail lights.

Not much at all, EASILY seen at night and a bit dim during the day. Ofcourse, a special request of extra light or extra dark is only a sentence away :) Several coats get applied, so its pretty easy to tint them lighter / darker to your preference.

Okay, round 2. Who's in? I want to get mine done, but he needs a few sets to make it worth his while so maybe 3 sets of taillights so we can get the 80 / pair price. If you have 5 lenses, its 175. 110 for 2 taillights and a 3rd brake light. 5 bucks per person goes to BCM.

After following Mike home on the freeway, the lights looked black with the truck off and they look stpock while illuminated. That was silverado taillights that are pretty bright to begin with.

I'm thinking next week, when are you guys available to do it if you want in? PM me :0

A day to paint, and you could put them on same day. We like to wetsand and buff the lenses so they REALLY shine, but this could be done at a later date if you need them back on right away.

I dont have any nighttime photos but I was never hassled by cops about the tails. My theory was they saw the reverse light was perfectly clear, so obviously its not a cover over the tails, so they could have figured it came stock like that. And honestly, as flawless as the paintjob was, it definitely looked like it could have been OEM. I look forward to getting another set done and I have no worries I will get the same quality. Definitely worth the money

Just to give you an idea of what tinted lights look like off and on, I took a few photos of my lights off and just my running lights on. Much brighter when the brake light is lit.

Nightshades doesn't let anywhere near the amount of light the base coat / clear coat allows through, especially when you go this dark.
