I guess that is one reason to carry a decent size fire extinguisher in your car!

Link works for me. I think he got a $3000 offer for it. It was turbo'd and had a lot of other mods done to it.

Damn, their had to be a good amount of money put into that thing. looks like the S/C'r was swapped out for a Turbo.

One of the "mods" I will be doing this year is putting a fire extinguisher in the car. I hope I never have to use it on my car or anyone elses.

Makes you wonder if new cars should come standard with a fire extinguisher.

Sucks to not get your car appraised for insurance reasons after you modify it..

I have never had one of my own cars burn, but I had a few close calls when I was younger.
I have seen a few cars burn tho and even just seeing a plain cookie cutter car burn is kinda sad, and in many cases once they start burning the fires are hard to get put out.

A bitter ex BF burned a neighbors car about 3 summers ago, threw a lit bottle of gas on the front seat of a Crown Vic, 5 minutes after the fire was lit, the fire trucks got there and their hoses hooked up the car was fully involved.
Was kinda weird when the column burned the 4 ways and horn came on, it was like the CV screaming as it was being killed.

I have a small marine extinguisher in the car I care about most.

Yeah but you just know the instant you put one in the car that can be seen somewhere someone will have some sort of rice comment. Just bound to happen. With all the electronics I have in mine I wanted a small one in the trunk but didnt want the drama of shit said.

Kinda sad on my part I guess? Throw away chance of possibly protecting my gem for avoiding a internet comment

As long as you don't mount it on one of your pillars then i don't see it being rice. Its for safety.

I would put one in regardless of what people say. If you can save your car or save someone's life by using it, who cares what people say. When their car starts on fire, they will understand. It's a hard lesson to learn and I rather learn from other people's misfortunes then experience it myself.

I was thinking of either on the false wall in the trunk or to the pass side kick panel....might be a nice polished one tho :P

The 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, owned by David Radant of 4626 Custer Lane, was engulfed in flames and a total loss of an estimated $3,000, said Manitowoc Fire Department fire investigator Charles Olson.

Only if you have a L67... They tend to do that. GM Recalled for repair just over 200,000 of them.

But on any car with mods, anything is possible, so yeah its a good idea to protect your investment with an extinguisher.

Same here. Although I pretty much laughed at it as it basically stated to not park in or around anything that you dont want burned. They are looking into things but dont have a solution nor has an offical recall been issued. So with that said, we wait..... for either another letter or a torched car.

Same here, it says on the 2002 Grand Prix supercharged models they have been seeing an oil leak (go figure) form and it is leaking on to the exhaust and starting a fire if it gets underneath the heatshield where it is hot enough to spark a fire. they said the reason for the leak is from ?hard braking? How the fuk does that happen? Hard brakeing causes an oil leak?

Also it it says not to park the car in your garage and the chances of this happening are 1:1,000.

Also it stats that they are in works with the manufacturer to get enough replacement parts to accomidate the recall. So when the hell am I suppose to bring my car in for this recall? It dosen't state what they are replacing for the recall either? What is getting fixed/adjusted/replaced to cause this from happening?

Andy is your letter similar to what I epxplained above?

No shit thats what Iam talking about. What the fuk happens if my shit burns and they knew about the problem? Can I sue their stupid asses? This seems like a joke to me.

Good idea but keep in mind that this 2.5lb. extinguisher will be empty in 9 seconds. After that all you have to put out your fire is a empty tank to throw at it. :goof

Like they say bigger is better. 10 or 20 lb will get you 17 to 24 seconds. So if your fire re ignites as often can happen with flammables you'll have something left to give it.:thumbsup

It is a shame that this had to happen. I have always been a fan of gp's in that color too. I guess that I am going to have to add an extinguisher to the list of things that I am going to do to my car.

L67 Grand Prixs have had the problem with leaky valve covers since they came out in '97 and this is one of the first I've seen that burned to the ground. I find it very hard to believe that an oil leak had anything to do with it. It's far more likely that it had something to do with all the hacking you need to do to turbo one of these cars. I've also noticed that he had PRJ fuel rails on that car. From what I've heard about that guy's products, I'd say there's a pretty good chance that they're the cause of the fire.
