Blacking out my truck and was looking for a decent looking set of headlights, and I think these are the best I could find. I think they are rice, could use some extra opinions:

The description is terrible.

They look similar to the projectors available for my car. I like them but to put them on the Grand Am, it definetly isn't plug and play like the add says. Guys had to cut out parts behind where the light goes to get them to fit...and they aren't recommended for use with HIDs....

I won't be operating with HID's, maybe in my reverse lights but not for headlights / high beams.

I don't think so, more euro style I think. Regardless it dosent matter man, whatever you like and makes you happy. If people gave you shit for em' tell em' to get fuked.

You truck is black right? They would look pretty tits on it if it is black. :thumbsup

How much?

pOrk
04-08-2008, 05:50 PM
They are 100 bucks, and like 40 for shipping. My truck is black, I just powder coated my bumpers and the grille is by Crash getting painted today. Next step is powder coating my rims. I don't know if I like them or not

I would do it, I think they would look tits on it. Plus if its only $140 why the hell not? ya know?

michelle

I think they would look rice on any other color truck but yours. I say try it out. If you don't like it, I am sure you could sell them locally to the right buyer and make money on them.

^ You trying to say my truck is rice? Haha

I guess the price isn't bad for aftermarket headlights, my next concern is if they will leak. I'm not a huge fan of aftermarket stuff bought on ebay like this you know?

Deggy
04-08-2008, 05:59 PM
They will probably get moisture inside of them. Every aftermarket headlight and tail light I've gotten always leaked.

pOrk
04-08-2008, 06:00 PM
^ Thats what I'm afraid of. My factory headlights still look find, but I want something a little darker. I bought the turn signals that kinda match them but haven't gotten them yet. Those were like 24 bucks shipped.

Nix
04-08-2008, 06:01 PM
I see, maybe when you get them look at the seals and if you have concern add something to the seals to make sure they won't leak. Im not sure what type of compound you could use, maybe some type of caulk?

H8RADE
04-08-2008, 06:01 PM
Absolutely no.
Just get some nice glass eurospec lights and call it good.
Get the rest of the truck done and really think about it.
Changing a bunch of visual appearances at one time is not smart, and you know this, so don't get carried away replacing the springs in the seats and putting color-matching seals on the trunions of the ujoints.

Deggy

My black housing headlights aren't too bad. It comes and goes like after a car wash and stuff.

No, I was saying it wasn't. I was saying on any other color truck it will look rice, but because you have a black truck, I think it will actually look nice. I have black altezza taillights on my '01. Yeah, they are rice, but they look better because it is a black car versus any other car.

How about from now on you don't automatically assume I will hate everything you are interested in? kthx.

It gave me good practice with fiberglass and spraying primer and paint. I like working with carbon fiber better. I think I might have to start making my own carbon fiber front lips since the Mach 1 lips don't last very long either. It works well for the racecar, so why not a Taurus.

I don't like the Halo's or the LED's in them, I am basically looking for a black housing with two projectors inside ( low beam and high beam ).

The company that makes thouse makes them for a whole bunch of differnet cars. Same company that makes the ones I have I think. They are all over ebay. YES it says to not use HIDs. I am and so are alot of neon guys that have them as well. Yes the HIDs run cool and I have yet to have any problems with mine. I love mine. I replaced the leds inside with amber ones. Looks alot better than the white ones. The light output obviously isn't acura quality but it is 95% going to be better than stock. As for condensation in them. Seems like 1:1 are having that problem. I luckely am not. But for any aftermarket headlights/tail lights you should always throw a bead of silicone around them for safe measure. I say do it. But you know me. I am a ricar :)

These are what I was looking at pork but without the halo. I can't seem to find them anymore. Everything has the halo.

Eric I bought projections for my truck a long time ago. I they were a pain to install and even once they were in I couldnt adjust the lamps to get them aim right so I could see. they ended up coming off and going in the garbage.

IMO I wouldn't even waste time or money with them.

kornholio788
04-09-2008, 03:00 PM
Pork just don't wire up the halos or the leds. You can't even really tell there are halos when they aren't lit up unless you are looking for them. And with these sadly when you aim them you have to take the headlights out of the car(at least I had to) then adjust then put them back in adn test lather, rinse and repeat. Sucked but it was worth it in the end. Got them aligned nice adn the cutoff is sweet. Nice and sharp.

cant you just get a pair of stockers from the junk yard,or ebay that are still good(just cheeper than buying new) and take them apart then paint the inside black??? then put them back together...that way if you mess it up you still have yours. it would still have the blacked out effect and wont look "ricey"

pOrk
04-10-2008, 12:33 AM
The stockers aren't projectors, if I did that the light output would be NULL.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the head. HIDs run much much cooler than regular filament bulbs, but it is easy to understand the ignorance of those that say otherwise. Usually brighter means more heat, but not in the case of HIDs.

The reason why they might say not to use HIDs in the projector headlights is because of the placement of the bulb. HID bulbs are longer, therefore the focal point changes when compared to a normal filament bulb. The performance of a projector is majorly impacted by the placement of the focal, or "hot spot" of the bulb. This isn't as much of a problem with normal reflector housings (which usually just project a ton of horrid glare when the focal point changes). With projectors, due to the shield in place (the part that makes that nifty, sharp cutoff and bends the light to create the blue flicker) protects against glare, but not as much light may be spread onto the road.
