To participate in "Drive The Mile," you must be at least 18-years-old and have a valid driver's license and insurance (people younger than 18 years of age can be passengers). Vehicles driven on The Milwaukee Mile must be street-legal with current registration and cannot be self-propelled. Drivers will be lead around the track by The Milwaukee Mile's official pace car and supervised by the track's safety team. Parking for the event is free at The Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis.

How is the track & surface? What were the top speeds achieved?

I ran 2 sessions. First session we were kept around 45-50mph. During the second one, the pace truck was taking us around at 60mph and I was able to hit about 85 on the back straight.

The surface was smooth and it was neat bieng able to work the driving line -even at slower speeds. The first lap or 2 you have to get used to how wide that track actually is and figuring out where to have the car for entering and exiting the turns.

A few years ago, my buddy had a stall setup at a home improvement show at state fair . I showed up to bother him about a half hour before it closed. I ended up staying there untill it closed and we shot the sh!t with some of the other guys there for about an hour afterwards. When we went out to the track to drive home(they had you park your vehicle on the track), we noticed that there is only four vehicles there and two were ours! Yeah, you bet we took a few laps. Seriously, nobody was around. My buddy had a '95 Z-71 and I had a '98 Camry at the time. After three laps, I got enough balls to push the car in the turns and ended up drifting the thing. After two hot laps we called it quits before one of us ends up hitting a wall. The Toyota is definitely not fast, but it handles very predictablely when pushed to its limits. I always smile when I think of that... I mean how many people can say they drifted a Camry on the oldest track in America?:D

!M!

Damn that's an awesome story!!! I can't beleive you snuck a few laps on the track. :headbang :thumbsup :rockwoot:

The only thing I can compare to that is the time I followed a group of street racing modern muscle cars out of HWY 100 to some little airport in Brookfield/Waukesha where we snuck onto the runway at night and had ourselves an old fashioned Drag Race!!! The surface was nowhere near as smooth as you might expect :stare but what a good time!
