Foxbody Stangs competed very well with 2nd and 3rd gen Maro's. Remember, nothing was "fast" in the 80's, lol. (Well, almost nothing. I mean GM did do one thing right with the GN, but after realizing it actually had made something worth buying promptly axed the project. as for the new mustang u can get the shelby GT500 500 horse power car and also the super snake which from factory is 750 horse take that

The foxes did at the end of their run. The SVO was a joke. The TTA blew the doors off and carved corners around every Mustang built up to that point.

73 was the end of the Mustang and F-body until the mid80s as far as performance is concerned. The F-body got fat after the 73 split bumper. The Mustang had severe identity issues. I think 80-81 was the bottom for the Mustang. I don't know my Mustang history but I think those were the years of the midget-bore 302 and put out like 140hp or something. And they were heavy.

The end of the 80s brought back both the Mustang and the F-body. F-bodies could be had with TPI or turbo 3.8Ls. You could even get a 325hp GTA Firefox. The forged 302 was pretty bling and the cars were getting lighter but uglier. Bug-eyed Mustang? No thanks. But I'd like to have a notch with a 302 and a T5.

Different kind of people were buying Mustangs than f-bodies. V6 Mustangs see Rental duty, grandma duty, 19 year old girl duty, et cetera. Nobody wants to sit in an uncomfortable F-body with a 200hp engine.

I'll double-shit on the 300. The only good one was made was in the early 80s. Fuel injection brought less power and torque, even worse fuel economy, and it's still fat and heavy. The Toyota 22RE lasts forever too, it doesn't make enough power to hurt itself. The 300-I6 makes a fine paperweight or a air compressor/generator motor. Pretty much worthless for anything else. Put a slushbox on it and I'd rather drive something with a Kohler 7-horse in it.

I got 275hp out of my $700 305 (or more appropriately 315) in my blue truck. 30 hours with a die grinder on the "best" 305 heads, ARP the snot out of it, windage it, put a cam that gets you a whopping 11" of vacuum at 1000rpm, and let 'er rip. But yeah, pretty much a worthless engine. Just like the Ford 5.4L, stroke is way too long compared to the bore.

The f-body stopped production because it was costing more to produce than they were selling it for. You can blame the Canadians for that. Overhead was ginormous because the fscking French Canadians couldn't be bothered to learn English. They had interpreters there all the time.

They planned on building the fourthgen, they just didn't know if they were going to make it past 97 in Canada. My Dad sat in a fourthgen prototype in late 1990. They were all about building it then. And you can't say that Ford made a Mustang that could compete with the LS1 F-body until they went forced induction on the 03 Cobra.

Infinite. Yesteryear's fat GTO or today's fat G8 offer decent numbers normally aspirated. They don't get the old F-body's 30+mpg on the expressway but I don't think Ford ever built a Mustang that got decent economy.
