You will probably need a cage. NHRA rules apply. You might get one run it, so make it count.

I've never run down the track before but I know some of the other guys runnings the paxton's are in the mid to high 10's. I know you need a cage if your running sub-10's but hopefully I will be able to run without!

your info is incorrect your going to need a cage if your quicker than 11.49

2007 NHRA Rule book 4:10 ROLL BARS Mandatory in all cars running 11.49 or quicker, or per Class Requirements

sticky thursdays is special track prep for max hook you did have to have slicks or drag radials last year dunno if that changed... but it is a good time everytime i've been down there the faster car use that for hardcore test and tune :thumbsup

I thought if you had a convert you needed some sort of cage no matter what the time? or atleast the harness bars over the heads? i'm not real sure.

It has the head bars but it's not considered a cage....at least not at road america.

A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile

Yup, may even a get a few in before anybody cares.

You could technicaly and legaly make a lot of pass':
Make several test launch's, letting off before the 1/8 mile.
After figuring out what works best for your 60' and 330'
times then give her all she has. With several 1/8 mile
pass' on paper you will know you best potential 1/4,
after the 1/8 mile its an ez calculation to do online.

Your tire spinning 1/8 mile times will be your highest speeds.
Your best no-spin 60' times will show your best ET's.

In addition to the 11.5 ET rule...you will get also kicked if you trap higher than 135mph w/o a cage, which your car should be capable of, no matter how much you spin off the line, or the resulting poor ET.

As said above, for practice, run it for the 1/8, and coast it. Repeat until you get your launch figured out, then at the end of the day give the full run a go.

And when you do, have a bud shooting vid of the board, cause they probably won't give you a timeslip for the illegal pass.

dont waste your time heading down on stickey thursday if you dont have slicks.they will not let you run on street tires or nittos.

they will give you a slip with a note on it and tell you you went too fast. also i've seen stock vipers there and spin past the 60ft i wouldn't bother going without slicks!

There was a video I saw a while back of a Mustang that was running lower than 11.5, they told him if he broke 11.5 again they'd kick him out. So, at the start he rolls just enough to trip the ET timer... counts to 3 then hammers it. Apparently they left him alone. :D

They let me run my old one 10.50s 135-140 MPH but it was before they were NHRA now and it wasnt a convertible. Not sure how they are nowadays but the used to be pretty flexible on the new cars like Vipers and Z06s since they run like 11s and go 200 MPH stock, and have very good suspensions tires brakes etc. IMO its a world of difference compared to 30 plus year old musclecars with 60s suspension brakes and aero where you need a cage.

Not true,at least not since we went NHRA.My advice would also be to run 1/8 mile passes.Usually you'll get 3 warnings. If you run in the 10's you'll definatly need a cage.Oh yeah bring a helmet,if you run 13.99 (you will) and quicker you'll need it as well.

Yooformula

I wouldnt risk it. make sure you have the helmut and just run 1/8 mile passes as prev stated until you are ready for 1 good pass then call it a day.

here some help full info

by NHRA rules ....

1. helmet ( no matter how fast)
2 11.99 and quicker you need a 6 point roll bar/ fire jacket
3. 9.99 and quicker you will need a certified cage fire jacket , gloves, pants..

but remember you mite get away with it one or 2 times .... you also will have to have other saftey stuff like drive shaft loop Ie and so forth.....

RSD are little more laxed ..... if you need more info you can give me a call
414-526-1296....scotty k me and a few others have been through the process of going fast ....from our 13-14 sec cars to our 8 sec cars

So when they pop the hood in the tech inspec. and see the supercharger they are not going to immediately kick me off? Can I tell him I am just looking to do 1/8 miles passes?

I have a helmet and fire jacket so I will bring them

sounds good to me....

what is a good day/time to go to avoid long lines?

So I can't get slicks on it unless I do some brake relocation which I don't want to do yet. I ditched the stock runflats and running Michelin PS2's. When would track temp/cond be good for my set-up?

thanks for the help

dont go for that free race bu11sh1t when they first open up, the track is preped like shit and you get one oass in 2 if your lucky. id wait until normal racing and friday nights are usualy ok, but there agian track prep isnt always the best. I like tues or wednesday night most thou

Get some drag radials. You will be diassappointed trying to run it on regular radials. Your car is probably right around the power level of my old one. Drag radials at a low enough pressure and heated up enough will actually hook pretty decent and be able to get you 1.6 or so 60 foots and into the tens. On regular tires I fear you won't stand a chance and will be dissappointed with the crap times you will get spinning the tires like crazy.

There was a new NHRA ruling that pure factory stock convertible vehicles now don't need a roll cage until 11.49 like the rest of us....

Read that link for the specifics. It says if the convertible is not 100% factory stock, then it needs a cage at 13.49. Not sure how GLD applies this. These rules also seem to pertain more towards organized NHRA racing than any guidelines for time-runs.

This is not just hear-say, I actually read the official announcement but it was a year or two ago so my memory is a little foggy.

thats only if it is indeed STOCK. with any mods(ie exhaust or non factory power adder) it will need a cage....technically.
