I can read the reviews and I can see the brands most talked about. My question is, for something that's more of just a fun target gun, what would be the recommendations for my AR15. Just was looking at a couple Aimpoint or EOTech stuff. Don't want to spend the $1000+ for a true acog. And what are some decent prices to be expected. Even if it's used I'm ok with that, but what are some decent used prices then?

I've got an Aimpoint. I chose it over the Eotech because I don't like how the Eotech is set up with the glass just kind of hanging out to get broken on something (I've never heard of that happening, but I'm paranoid like that). I have used many ACOGs, and they are awesome, I just can't justify spending the money over the Aimpoint for my Mforgery.

Just use adjustable aperture iron sites, learn to shoot with those first.

Then spend some coin on Leopuld, Nikon, or Swarovski Tactical scope.

EoTechs still work even with the glass broken, and there's a metal protective shield over it that's beefy. EoTechs are great. Acogs are VERY nice as well, and last time I looked they were like $880ish??? Unless you're going to use it for taget shooting, or prarie dog hunting, you won't need a good magnification optic.

You could buy like 50 of them for the price of a good red dot though!!!

Did ACOG ever fix the clear plastic tubing cracking problem they had?? All of mine are older models that didn't have it, so I have nothing to worry about, just more of a curiosity thing.

Nope, thats how you can tell a real ACOG from a fake one. I guess the crack is what lets the light in, or something like that.
