I have a good sized stump in my yard that needs to be taken care of this spring. If anybody does this on the side let me know, but I need someone that knows what they're doing. It's rather close to my driveway and I don't want to damage the concrete.....

Any input (hopefully intelliegent) is much appreciated...!!!

How far from the concrete?
You need a good 6" front/back, at least, to completely grind a stump out.
Your best bet is to do it parallel with the driveway.

I say go rent one, they are very easy to use.
All you do is fire it up, lower the blade down and grind... it's just that easy.
There's no kickback unless the blade is dull/junk, but I doubt any rental place would be renting their stuff out like that.
Probably take you more time unloading/loading the stump grinder.. than to actually grind it out.

Also, those chemicals you can buy to rot stumps don't work.

I'll give the number a call, thanks.....

I measured exactly how close the stump is from the concrete driveway and it's about 8ft. I thought it was much closer than that.....:durr

He did that all in one day, from 10am til 5pm....on a rainy day. He chipped everything that day & came back to stump it at a later day

So do straps...... Im very familiar with snapback damage. Just got to have high capacity chain/straps and be safe...

Probably not a reasonable approache for this anyways though.

I got rid of a stump in my yard (about 3ft dia, 1ft tall) by splitting it with an axe in as may spots as I could, digging a trench around it, filling the trench with water, pouring a bag of charcoal on top of the stump and then a gallon of diesel. It burned for about a day, and you can not even tell it was ever there. Pretty fun, too.

It is a fairly common way of removing a stump.

One method I have known about is to use one of those really long 1" drill bits and turn the stump into swiss cheese, then procede with a combustable, but let it soak for some time. Be careful, some stuff goes 'bang', not burn.

Good story. It was much cheaper then paying someone to get rid of it, and worked great.

Drilling holes in it and then burning used motor oil in it works pretty good, burns nice and slow and used oil is pretty easy to come by in most of our garages. If you dont want to do the trench of water just pour some sand around it that works too.
