Just an update for the friends of "Jer" Jeremy Ortmann.

He will be rejoining the free world on 3/21 @ 8:30am.
He will be living with Nicole and I, as someone needs to give the kid a break, since he doesn't have any family. Obviously the only thing he has now are the clothes off his back.

If anyone knows of anyone thats hiring ---- he will need a job.
If anyone knows of a cheap beater car ---- he will need a car.

Just trying to give him a fresh start, and help a guy out.

We are up in Jackson, so I dunno who all lives up here, etc. But if anyone knows of any leads, let me know.

Dan, I live in Jackson as well as you know. I dont know what kind of qualifications he has but we are always looking for "help". The general labor positions dont pay much $8-10 an hour but its a job.

I was wondering what was the outcome of his "incident".

Where is he locked up?

Seems like a good job for him!

If he is living in jackson and doesnt have a car a 45min commute is not really realistic.

I'm hoping with the warm weather coming I/we can either get him a job @ Signicast on Nicole's shift, or maybe in town where he can walk.

Basically he hadn't done his community service for some shit when he was a teenager, and it bit his ass, and he had to finish jail time for all of that, and was tossed in Sturnevant, and then when that was up, they sent him up here to Washington County for the little fender bender, improperly plates, non-registration, and somethin' else.

He just lost nearly a year of his life, I'm sure he learned. He really is a good guy, he's just had it rough with the loss of his mom in highschool, and his brother is like 12 years older, and obviously wasn't around or anything. Lives far away, etc. He made a bad decision a few years back, and it kicked his ass, and again now, but this time jail, etc. and having nobody to lean on during a rough time, we just feel somebody needs to get him out of the city, and give him a fresh start. So we're gonna do it.

If anyone wants our address or #s, let me know, otherwise I'm sure he'll be on BCM.

and Breecher -- where do you work?

I know sysco is less then a mile from me and they are ALWAYS hiring.

There are a few large companies right on 60. If all else fails a friend of mine owns a rather large landscaping company based out of hartford, i could probably get him in there as long as he does have a lisence.

Dan thats just plain Awesome !!!

I used to ride sport bikes with Jer back in 99-01 and he is cool shit. Everyone needs a fresh start at times, but not everyone meets a person that can help them out, Hats off to you for doing this for him.

Nicole went and saw him about a week and a half ago, don't forget her, she's been part of this all too.

Based on the letters we've gotten, and seeing him, he's definitely learned a lifetime of lessons due to all of this.

Social isolation alone would be hell.

sounds like you are trying to do a good thing dan! good luck to all involved. just make sure that you are there to kick his ass if he starts to backtrack, LOL! i don;t mean that in a bad way either, just trying to say that it would suck to see all you and nicole;s work and worries go down the tubes. some people not only need a helping hand, they also need a swift foot once in a while too!

again, good luck and this guy is pretty lucky to have a buddy like you!

well as long as he has a car and can get up at 5-6 in the morning, have him look into an apprenticeship, he'll start out at 13 or more per hour, and within 4-5 years, depending on the trade he chooses, he'll be a journeyman making more than 30 an hour

I'm hoping we can get him headed toward some kind of trade that can lead to a career. I know he works well with his hands. I think he's stringy enough to be in home type construction.

i hope all turns out well for him. i wish there was something i could have done earlier

You already did alot w/ info for Nicole and I, and you proved yourself to be a good person, despite your exterior.

I'm not willing to put my name on the line for him for obvious reasons but my company is hiring unexperienced 2nd shifters, www.mtlcraft.com . ALl he needs to do is show up, must apply in person, impossible job to get fired from if he shows up on time every day and makes an attempt.

Better now, much better indeed. I don't care how shi77y the weather is, much rather be out here than in any of the "correctional" facilities I just toured. Still going through that shock of not being locked up anymore.. Damn being institutionalized.... :(

Good to see that you're out and about Jeremy, but take it slow to start off. Getting used to 'outisde' life can be a bigger shock than it may seem. I've seen way too many friends go right back in one way or another because they don't know how to handle it right away.....

Definitely nice to be out. Have to say after 10 months of being locked in a 12x8 box 20 hours a day I had more than enough time to think and re-evaluate things. All I'm mainly concerned with is starting a job and getting everything going. I'll sort things out as they come to me but most of what was then is gone from my mind. It can and will only get better from here.

And of course I expected the prison jokes, can't blame you guys.

Thanks for all the thoughts and welcoming.
