I'm pretty sure this guy was at last year's GLD "Name that Test and Tune" with a gigantic semi trailer and a black and yellow striped 69 Camaro with a big single turbo EFI big block running 7s. Here is his latest car, (the previous one got wrecked) posted on another board:

Long-time street car drag racer Spiro Pappas already has one of the fastest street-legal drag '69 Camaros in the world, but for 2008, he's added a second car to the lineup... and this one is off the scale. Powered by a 540 cubic inch Sonny Leonard hemi-headed big block Chevy assembled by Fast Times Motorworks, the focal point is the pair of 88mm turbos on the front of the engine. No horsepower ratings are public, but driver Nick Scavo points out that it should crack 2500 horsepower with minimal boost, easily 3000+ with boost turned up!

The owner's name is Spiro Pappas and he's one of Chicago's elite racers, and has been for a long time. He's run that particular paint scheme since I've been watching him race, for sure since the early '90s. And his license plate always reads LUVUFAY (His wife). I remember when he'd money race that thing on 9" slicks. He'd sand-bag until he got himself a sucker and then he'd open up his glove box so he could see the gauges hidden there, pull his monster tach out from underneath his seat , plug it in and clamp it to the dash, and then turn on the hidden N2O system. Back then I think he was running low 9's/high 8's but I can't be sure because he was clocks off racing before Ron was out of high school...;):D

That Titan car with a 10.5 W tire couldn't keep up with Spiro's car unless it was shot off of the deck of the USS Nimitz with a steam catapult.

I can't wait to see Spiro's car go up against Mike Murillo's 540inch twin 88mm turboed Fox Body for Most Insane on 10.5" tires honors. :shades

I wasn't tryin to start a pissin match, NAN posted that as i joke and i had to show off i geuss. OH and Last time i checked that Camaro sure as **** doesn't look to be on a 10.5 wide tire. Maybe he did when he was in the Low 9's High 8's but not now.

Actually that's exactly what he runs, a 10.5W X 33" tire. Mike Murillo run the same class, Outlaw 10.5W, with the same tire. They're not really 10.5" wide, (more like 11.2") hence the "W" designation, but they're not a 17 X 33 Pro-Mod tire, either. The 15" wide bead-lock wheels and the 33" height make the tire look a lot more impressive than it actually is.

:3gears: :3gears: :3gears:

The engine alone is worth at least $80K. He has two.:wooo The chassis is probably worth $40K, $15K for trans, clutch and Ti bell housing. Now add in the ECU, data logger, plumbing, spares and incidentals, it's probably close to a $500,000 car. Now add in the tractor/trailer plus tools, computer, blah, blah, blah and you've got about a $1,000,000 operation. And Spiro isn't a pro with a ton of sponsors. For him it's just a hobby.

The financial waters you swim in had better be very deep indeed if you wish to field a car operation of this magnitude on your own dime.

About how much HP does an engine like that make ? My wild guess would be around 2500 ?
Fricken awesome.

Smokey1226
03-03-2008, 09:24 PM
Each 88mm is good for 1300hp Depending on Exhaust housing size, Larger houseing may make more and vice versa for smaller. So you take that into consideration plus the 540ci Big block and you could make 2500 without pushing the car too hard.

Searched around and found the goal is 2800 reliable HP at 25psi and the car went 7.01@205 on the second pass at Memphis motor sport park, "with some boost controller issues" :headbang

I as well! These are bullshit claims unless they are referring to streets in other countries. They are far from legal here and the power has nothing to do with it.

That and the fact that people who have purpose built drag cars and call them daily drivers just because they drive it 30 miles once or twice a year on the streets are my biggest pet peeves.

If you drive it to the gym, work, school, grocery store, cross-country, ok.
