You could try sending it to sony, they put a new motherboard in my vaio laptop (5 years ago) for $150

PC Cards do not work, but they do make the PCMCIA to USB cards. I tried that a couple years ago - that's when I found out my PC Card slot does not work!

When I am done with school, I will probably try to get it figured out. I can't quite live without my laptop for a week or so to send it in to Sony with schoolwork.

Not like I gave it a 10-minute check... I spent hours researching, trying all kinds of things, updated the BIOS, etc.

Is it really that hard to believe that a piece of computer hardware has failed :P
