Sad indeed but I can't get the image of him being an a$$hole to everyone on his show out of my head. I know that business can be harsh but you don't have to be that way in order to get things done.....

He was an asshole but i think to run a shop that big that turns out that high quality cars you have to be on your game. so i'm sure he doesn't mean to be an asshole he just wanted shit done right the 1st time. it's just a sad day for the automotive world.

Hopefully he died doing what he loved.

But do you think people realized that...??? Most likely not, most would just say he's as a$$hole because that's the way he is. Honestly, I think if he could look at what he was really like towards others (now that he's gone) he might change things a little.....

I myself recently started to realize that LIFE IS EXTREMEMLY SHORT and you only get ONE shot at it. So you don't have the fastest or best looking car(s), or you don't have the most money in the world? WHO CARES!!!, just be happy or figure out what makes you happy and enjoy the ride. It's a lot easier to say goodbye to the world knowing that you've lived/enjoyed life to the absolute fullest and people miss YOU for YOU and your all around good nature.....

How about the fact that it was a TV show!!!!!!!

people feed off that drama shit. He was probably a prick to keep ratings up.

Heck of a hot rodder, with great ideas and vision. But in truth he wasn't a great businessman. He did have to file bankruptcy a couple times.

I know of someone that dealt with Boyd on a regular basis and he told me that Boyd was the same when the cameras weren't there. I know running a shop of that size and kind can be extremely stressful but it can still be done in a more civilized manner.....

I just think people will miss his work more than Boyd himslef, because if it wasn't for his work nobody would like him or want to deal with him.....

RIP PEACE BOYD.............^^^^^^^^BUT WHAT WORK DID HE DO LATLY...everything on the shows from day one..the guys in the shop did the work..and if he did lend a hand..he fudged it up...like when he drilled the steering shaft hole in the firewall...and drilled it in the wrong place...oppss...just cover it up...that why soooo many of his last cars he got back...the people sued him and got there cash back...rememeber seeing a few of the cars back at his shop...the red woody, the red corvette, the green 59-60 chev with motor cycle and a few more.......and add to the fact he was going broke...thats why the 2nd wheel biz was sold and ex wife and son went with it...Boyd went belly up in the realy 90's when foose worked for him....thats when he sold BOYD WHEELS to get fast cash......Granted he will be missed in the auto world...he did build some nice cars in his early years, thats for dammm sure....

on a lighter note...Dwayne is out of a job.....

^^^^^I guess I was referring to his work that was top notch when he was on top of his game. I didn't know that he had that many financial and other issues, maybe that's why he was Mr. Crabby pants all of the time.....

gimme a break. it was a show. how many successful businessmen are the nicest guys in the world? none until after they get rich. it was a tv show and ALOT of that stuff is scripted. And I am quite sure even Chip Foose has people do work on the cars he designs, so to say that Boyd didnt personally work on teh car is just dumb. Other designers that build 1 car a year cant compete with Boyd's shop and really shouldnt be compared to his that builds several cutoms a year for customers plus a shop.

I agree with what someone said about his asshatery being good for drama and ratings and never went deeper than that. He was a car guy's guy and we have all been known to have our moments.

I'll never forget my Dad's story about the great Street Rod Nationals flood of 1992 in Louisville, KY. I was there but I am too young to remember it, the show got 9 inches of rain in just under an hour and 10,000 cars were under water in the parking lot at the Kentucky Expo Center. My Dad's 1939 Ford Convertible was up to the headlights in water. The point of the story is at the time Boyd was showing the Aluma Coupe made famous on Home Improvement when Bob Villa raced Tim's 33 Ford. Anyway Boyd had his guys stack up four columns of five of his custom rims and eight guys picked the car up and set it on top of the wheels in order to avoid it getting wet.

Also, He was not well liked for a long time after Boyd Wheels went bankrupt. I remember hearing a lot of grumbling when he came back to the Goodguys show in Indianapolis in 1998 to start his Body's Pick Award.

You got that right, It was my Dad's first big show with his car finish... that show was the largest single automotive insurance claim in all of history but I'm guessing Katrina probably out did it now. In those pictures the water had already gone down a lot too.
