My pops has a 1993 Mercury Sable with a 3.8 liter. We procrastinated a little bit on renewing the plates on it because it won't pass emissions. It won't pass because the flexpipe is completely broken in half. ****** Ford. Never-the-less, Napa wants over $200 bucks for a whole new flexpipe. Thats a big chunk of change to me right now. No junkyard will sell a used one to me. Bastards. So does a FWD car absolutely positively HAVE to have a flexpipe on it? Can I chop it out with my sawzall and weld in a solid piece of pipe? Would this cause damage to the rest of the exhaust system or cause manifolds to crack or manifold bolts to break? Will it cause bad exhaust vibrations in the car? Or do I really need to man up and buy a new flexpipe? God damn those wrong wheel drive cars

I considered that, but I rather do a one time fix thing. Whether it be a new flexpipe, or weld in a piece of solid steel.

GM FWD cars dont have that flex coupling, instead they use 2 springs at the manfiold to hold the ball & socket type exhaust fitting together.
When you baja or go WOT with the thing the springs give a little to allow the engine and exhaust to move around some.

Take the auto to a qualified mechanic, you asked the same question about the same problem 3 months ago. :goof
And any fly by night exhaust shop will weld in a new flex joint for $50.

Therefore shut the **** up. You didn't help me with my problem at all nor did you help answer any of my questions. Did I ask WHO can fix it? No. I simply asked if it was possible to make do without the flexpipe. If it needs it fine, just checking to see if there is a cheaper solution to fix a 15 year old car.

Here, do us all a favor. Watch this for awhile, take some notes, observe it closely. Then try it out :thumbsup

Blah Blah Blah if you worked as hard as you talked it would be fixed already.

If its a 15 year old 40 dollar pos car that you dont want to put anything into why wouldnt you just go in there with your sawzall and weld in the pipe ?

Complaing about 50 or 200 dollars LoL at that, 50 dollars dont even buy a tank of gas today, man up and make more money.
